What is a database ?

• Consists of records
• Each record is made of fields
• Fields contain a particular type of information
• Fields may come from
• authors
• be about the location of something (journal,
  volume, issue page)
• or may descriptive information from the producer
  of the database
• The fields and records are searchable, but also
  form the result of a search
• They can be linked to a full-text source
