Quantity, timescale and selection

• Decision made to send stock to CASS in early 2004
• 1000 metres (c. 35,000 volumes) in 2 batches of
  500 metres each
• June 2004 and October 2004

Selection

• Question "how do you select material in terms of
  the collection and usage but also select in terms
  of ease of administration and cataloguing?"
• Periodicals vs. monographs?
• Scientific periodicals
• larger runs of periodicals to reduce the number
  of catalogue records.

Planning for OPAC

• Show work was in progress
• Ensure clarity for users re. the locations of the
  CASS stock
• Create a link to the CASS website and catalogue
  from each of our catalogue records
• Ensure clarity to show periodicals holdings,
  especially for split runs
• Retain the integrity of our own catalogue

• MARC 856 tags
• CASS location code in holdings
• Retain local classmarks
• Delete local item records

Sending MARC records to the NLS

• Files ready on Innovative system
• Create files of MARC export records
• Send them as email attachments to NLS
• Timed to coincide with the physical move of stock
• Non standard holdings data

• Inventory just of CASS holdings
• Packing list for removal company
• System functionality allowed us to send print and
  electronic format
• Preparation for packing
• The coloured card concept!

• Actually sent 1014 metres to CASS
• Retrospective cataloguing
