Title: Searching Finding

1
Searching Finding Browsing Notes
  • How to Search for and Find Previously Taken Notes

2
Searching For Text
  • You can search your entire notebook or only
    specific folders and sections.
  • OneNote displays the number of search results,
and lets you view each page where the text
    appears.
  • You can open the Page List Task Pane, which lists
pages that contain the text that you searched
    for.
  • You can sort Page lists
  • Open a specific page by taping the title of the
    page in the list.

3
Search Tips
  • To search for an exact phrase, enclose the phrase
    in quotation marks.
  • To search for multiple words that are not part of
the same phrase, but appear in the same
paragraph, separate each word with a space. You
can achieve the same result by typing NEAR
    between each word.
  • To search for only those notes that contain
multiple words, type AND between each word.
  • To search for notes that contain any of several
words, type OR between each word.

4
Search Tips
  • With the exception of AND, OR, and NEAR, search
    is not case sensitive.
  • When you record audio notes, OneNote
automatically inserts the text "Audio recording
started". To search for audio notes, type audio
    recording started.
  • If you type the first few letters of a word,
OneNote finds words that contain that portion of
the word. For example, if you type Tim and you
have notes that include the word time, OneNote
finds notes that contain both Tim and time. To
avoid this, use quotation marks to search for an
    exact word or phrase.

    text, tap View List

12
Recording Notes
  • Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 enables you to
record audio and video as you take notes
  • To record video, you can use a camera, such as a
    webcam
  • To record audio, you can use either the built-in
microphone in your computer or an external
microphone plugged into the microphone input jack
    on your computer
  • Audio recordings can be useful note-taking tools
in a variety of situations, including meetings
and lectures as a way to verify notes that you
    take
  • If you do a lot of research, audio and video
recordings also work well in conjunction with
side notes. When you drag research information
from the Web into a side note, you can annotate
each item with an audio-recorded note about the
    item and its significance

13
Recording Notes
  • Like notes, recordings are saved in OneNote
automatically, as part of the notes folder or
    section
  • Recorded notes remain in the file until deleted
  • Each audio note you record is saved as a Windows
Media Player file in your My Notebook folder.
Audio notes are saved as .wma files
  • Each file is named according to the title of the
section and page that are open when you make the
recording. If you make more than one recording on
any given page, the name of the file also
includes a number that indicates the sequence in
    which the recordings are made.
  • As with any type of recording, OneNote users
should always ask the subject of a recording for
his or her permission to be recorded.
