3What is the Leadership Project?
- The Leadership Project is an application of all
the skills and knowledge you have learned during
the Leadership class. - It will be a situation where you are the leader,
from creation, through implementation, all the
way to finishing.
4What is the Leadership Project?
- The Project will also involve taking all of your
documentation, results, reflections and putting
them together in a portfolio that will display
your growth from the beginning of the semester
until the end. - You will also give a 3 minute presentation on
your project at the end
5Why do we do the LP?
- This project serves as the test for your
understanding and ability with a hands-on
experience where you will analyze situations for
the appropriate leadership styles and strategies. - To be a successful leader in life, it is crucial
to be able to start projects and see them through
to completion.

- This project allows you to try creating your own
projects in an atmosphere that is safe and
structured in order to promote success. - Finally, it is hoped that your portfolio and
presentation will be an aid to you in the future
as you encounter various leadership roles.
7Whats in it for me?
- You will learn how to utilize the most
appropriate leadership style or skill for a given
situation - You will become reflective on your own actions,
words, and thought processes along with a better
understanding others - You will learn how to motivate, plan, inspire a
shared vision, use resources, etc.

- You will take risks as you learn in a safe
environment with the support of the class and
teacher to guide you as you progress - You will gain valuable experience in preparing
for your Senior Exit Project and similar
portfolio projects after high school.
9What does the project involve?
- The Hands-On portion of the project will
possess the following aspects - Active participation leadership
- A challenge above and beyond normal expectations,
responsibilities, and time (cannot be
time/efforts normally spent on a job, club,
team) - A stretch beyond skills and abilities you already
possess

(realization of your vision for the
project) - A positive benefit to the organization/others
- A group of followers from 5 50
- Approval by Mr. Roberts parent/guardian
11What does the project involve?
- The Leadership Project is composed of three
primary parts - 10 hours of hands-on, documented project time
with a measurable outcome - A comprehensive portfolio that not only documents
your project but what you have learned all
semester - A 3 minute presentation on your project
12What kinds of projects can I do?
- Canned food drives
- School improvement projects
- Activities with outside groups (Scouts, 4H)
- Athletics
- School Spirit
- Raise money for charities
- Community Service Projects
13Who is involved in the LP?
- You are the leader, so you are the one primarily
responsible for everything. - You cannot work in groups with other students.
- The project has to be your own.
- You, of course, will be working with followers as
you will be their leader.
14Who is involved in the LP?
- The number of people involved should be from 5 to
50. - Any less, and its difficult for you to be the
leader any more and that too might be
challenging.
15When is the LP due?
- The project can begin whenever you wish
- The project and materials must be completed by
Friday December 1st - We will assemble the portfolio in class and it
will be due on Friday December 8th - Presentations will be the following week
- Additional guidelines will be provided later
16How much time does the LP require?
- The Leadership Project will require at least 10
hours of documented time working on the project
alone. - The good news is that these hours can count
towards your required volunteer hours if the work
done fits the description of the Leadership
Project.
17When can I work on the LP?
- The project can be completed during breaks,
weekends, after school, etc. - Students may not take time out of their school
day to complete this project unless specific
permission is given by the teacher(s) and Mr.
Roberts.
18Where can I work on my LP?
- The project can be done in the community at
charitable organizations, churches, community
centers, schools, etc. - It can be something done on the job as long as it
is documented that you are going above your
assigned duties to take on a greater challenge as
a leader - It can also be done at the school
(i.e., after school tutoring, projects, etc.)
19What will we put in our portfolio?
20- The LP portfolio will include the following
- a pre-project evaluation
- an analysis of a great leader
- a collection of at least 20 quotes/reflections
10 stories - 5 sections focusing on the practices of exemplary
leadership (MICEE) including definitions,
analyses, strategies, and personal examples of
use - a comprehensive reflection journal
- a post-project reflection
- documentation of the time spent on the project
including signatures, pictures, etc.
21What should I do if I get stuck?
- If any student has any question or any difficulty
with his or her LP, they should approach the
teacher as soon as possible whether it be in
person, phone call, or e-mail. - Also, the teacher will be meeting with each
student individually over the next quarter to aid
in his or her in forming, monitoring, and
completing their project.
