- The mission of the CSMT is to make learning
resources and learning environments accessible
and meaningful to students with disabilities.
4General Curriculum
- Federal legislation, including the Individuals
with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the No
Child Left Behind Act of 2001(NCLB), mandate
access to general curricula for pupils with
disabilities.
5What Are Digital Talking Books?__________________

- A DTB is a book on a CD with user controls
which allows the material to become accessible to
the student with disabilities (SWD).
6Which Books Become DTBs?_______________________
- Eventually, all K-8 books in all curricular
areas, adopted by the State Board of Education,
will be made into accessible DTBs. In addition,
all local adoptions for grades 9-12 will become
DTBs. We hope also to have all literature
collections in this DTB format over time.
7How Do You Play A DTB?_______________________
- Each CD distributed by CSMT will contain free
downloadable players. We currently include TAB,
AMIS, and we are looking at software for Apple
products.
8DTB Features_______________________
- In addition to the DTB which has user files the
DTBs contain - Braille files
- PDF files
- eTEXT files
9User Control
- In order to facilitate access by pupils with
- disabilities who are progressing in the general
- curriculum, to the extent technologically
feasible, - a DTB allows the user to control
- Font sizing of text and of images
- Speed, pitch and volume of the voices
- Two voices text dialogue
- Book marking to the word/page/chapter/unit
- Background colors and/or contrast,
- Without modification of content)
