Why he is well known

• Because he was the first American to orbit the
  earth on February 20,1962
• Also because he was the oldest man to go into
  space. He was 77 years old the mission took nine
  days. It was from Oct.29-Nov.7 1998.
• Another reason was because he was the senator
  from Ohio

The Effects

• One effect it had on people today is that it
  helps our phone systems (Cell Phones).
• It also helped us learn about our solar system.
• And it also made it people more sure about going
  into space.

• The day that his amazing flight happened was on
  February 20,1962
• The other day that he took as the oldest
  astronaut was on Oct. 29-Nov.7,1989
• Another thing he did was that he got to help
  carry the one of the flags for the Olympics in
  2000
• One last thing that he did was that he helped our
  space systems for today
