BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCHOOL
  • The 1st Senior High School of Hymettus has
been running since 1973 but has entered a new
period recently with the introduction of subject
classes. Under this programme which is based on
the American school model, students do not have a
specific classroom. Instead, they have lessons in
different classrooms. In this way the teacher is
provided with the opportunity to gather all the
material and equipment s/he will need in one
place, namely his or her classroom, thus making
full use of it and the student is offered better
teaching conditions, broader access to facilities
and a rich variety of teaching realia and styles
that promote both education and communication in
    a friendly environment.

  • lessons (a choice of 4 is given ) for the
  • students of C class

11
Exams ! !
  • The exams of A and B class cover the material
    taught throughout the year.
  • They are not particularly difficult and students
need an average of 9.5 out of 20 in order to pass
    the class
  • Very few students fail the class. If they do,
they take exams again in September. If they fail
    again they repeat the class

12
Exams ! ! !
  • The Panhellenic exams are particularly
difficult. Students of C class all over Greece
are examined at the same subjects. Papers are
corrected by other teachers (not the students
own teachers), usually at a place in another area
of Greece. If the students have a gap of marks
between the oral and the written mark, they lose
the oral mark. It is replaced by the written mark
    plus 2.

13
Conclusion
  • Exams start in the beginning of May (shortly
after the Easter holidays) and last for about 6
    weeks.
  • Then students and teachers go on holidays or
gather strength for the new school year that
starts on the 14th of September
