  • Strong advocating from faculty and from within
    Mayo system to educate and promote the position
    within Mayo. Preceptors are now the supporters
    of the CHW positions within Mayo.

    descriptions and role of CHW

  • 5 graduates all with CNA and CHW certificates
  • All five have used the certificate to move into
    another position or support the position they
    were previously in. All five work as CHWs

    role, definition, admission requirements, etc.

    workforce need and student interest.

    and commitment from employers

Ivy Tech - Indiana

  • Getting all the right players to the table long
    delayed process in just figuring out the role of
    the CHWs in Indiana still do not have a CHW at
    the table.
  • What Strategies and strengths have helped you
    address the challenges?
  • Developed a task force
  • Ivy Tech is considering modifying the curriculum
    less credit hours
  • Develop curriculum as pathway in a Human Services
    Associate degree by articulating CHW hours as a
    Human Services specialty.
  • Access the labor market and job opportunities for
    CHWs in three different areas of the state
  • Once everything is in place would re-offer CHW
    program through Ivy Tech schools which are
    located in 14 regions.
  • Offer classes so students can complete in 1 2
    semesters

  • 4 students graduated in past 5 years
  • 20 interested students in the pipeline

Future Schools
  • We are working with two other schools within the
    Minnesota State Colleges and University System to
    implement the curriculum.

  • Looking at other ways to implement in more rural
    areas

  • Designate one school to implement curriculum in
    rural areas.
