Reality

• DCE and DFS Clients were hard to install and
  configure for the average user.
• Required multiple reboots to get all the pieces
  working.
• Frustrating to end users.

Alternative

• Integrate DCE and DFS clients into one easy to
  install application!

Process

• Used Winstall to determine files and registry
  entries added or modified.
• Developed installer with Installshield.
• Pre-configured registry entries for PSU
  environment
• CDS server.
• Integrated login.
• Mapped W to DFS root.
• Mapped X to DFS home directory.

Pros

• ONE REBOOT!
• End user doesnt need to know configuration
  settings.
• User sees DCE and DFS as one installed
  application.
• Makes upgrading or uninstalling very easy!
• Author learned more about Win32 DCE and DFS
  clients than he ever would have imagined. ?
