Title: Base Camp

Base Camp
  • Which planet to visit
  • By Samantha C. Jackie K.

2
MARS
  • Out of Venus, Jupiter, and Mars, Mars was found
to be the best. We didnt choose Venus or
Jupiter because of the active volcanoes, drastic
temperatures of freezing cold or scorching hot,
and their non breathable atmospheres. Mars is
almost the exact opposite of the two.

3
Why not Venus or Jupiter
  • Venus temperature is a boiling 900 degrees,
almost all the time. It also has over 1,600
active volcanoes and 85 of Venus is lava. There
are constant thunderstorms and acid clouds in its
atmosphere. Jupiters temperature is below the
freezing point and is -101 degrees at all times.
Jupiter also has active volcanoes and non
breathable chemicals of hydrogen and helium in
its atmosphere. Venus is too close to the sun
and Jupiter is too far away from Earth and the
    sun.

4
Points of Interest
  • Dont you want to find out whether there is or
    was life on Mars?
  • Arent you wondering if Mars had water?
  • If life on Mars disappeared, could it disappear
    on Earth?
  • If people say Mars is Earths sister, wouldnt
you like to know if theyre actually alike?
  • There is only one way to find out all of these
    facts.......... MARS, HERE WE COME!!?

5
Surface Features
  • Although Mars water is beneath the surface you
can always use the polar ice caps to ski, snow
board and much more. There are many rocks to
climb and collect. You can climb the volcanoes,
but if you see lava, RUN!? There are many craters
to explore on Mars. Also you can collect some of
    its rocks.

6
Weather of Mars
  • Like Earth, Mars has seasons, that consist of
summer, winter, spring, and possibly fall.
During the winter, the temperature is mostly -200
degrees and during the other two or three
seasons, the temperature is around 32 degrees.
(so bring a lot of blankets) Mars has some wind
    storms and a little precipitation.

7
Atmosphere
  • Mars like most planets, has an atmosphere, but
thinner than other planets atmosphere. Its
atmosphere is made up of mostly carbon dioxide.
This chemical is some what breathable but you
should bring air supplies just in case.

8
Distance
  • Mars is not the closest to Earth but absolutely
not the farthest. It is only 35 million miles
away. (which compared to Jupiter is a lot
closer.) It is also not the closest to the sun
and not the farthest. It is 155 million miles
    away.

9
An Inside Look
10
History of Mars
  • Mars is named after the Roman God of War
  • Romans thought that Mars got its red color from
blood but actually from rusted iron in its soil
  • Earth and Mars were created around the same time
  • Mars is considered Earths sister
