  • A half-day or one-day program could be held in a
pre-school or elementary school building The
second option would allow you to deliver a weekly
series in the classroom, after school or in the
    evening.
  • A family session should always be included as a
way to educate parents, recruit new volunteers,
and gain support for the program.

  • Snowflake was designed based on the idea that
this age group has the potential of experiencing
    significant benefit from prevention activities
because pre-teens are in the early stages of
developing their attitudes, values, and behaviors
as they are facing the transition from childhood
    to adolescence.

  • Main event 2-4 days camp.
  • It is recommended to begin with Operation
Snowball by building a core group of youth and
adult volunteers who will then begin to plan and
implement some of the other program models
    Snowflake, Snowflurry and etc..

  • The most common Snowball training experience
employ a peer-to-peer teaching model, recruiting
and training past youth participants to serve as
staff and co-facilitators with adult volunteers.
  • After providing an initial Snowball experience
and creating awareness of the alcohol and other
drug problems in your community, future training
    experiences can focus
  • on skill-building as well as on training of be
    peer facilitators, peer helpers, tutors,
    volunteers, valuable community members.

Current situation
Source Wheaton Warenville Snowball Training
Manual, 2003
  • Operation Snowball main programs summer and
    winter camps, follow-up meetings, recruitment
  • Operation Snowflake successful program
recruitment of young leaders for Snowball. One
day approach applied. Usually for local
communities (one or two schools involved)
  • Operation Snowflurry not periodically. It might
be effective in Vilnius, but lack of people to
hold the program is the main obstacle.
  • Segue unkept, but planned to renew in September
2005. Difficulties with sponsorship for this age
    of young people.
