Sliding Friction

• One surface slides over another surface

• When one object rolls over another
• Requires less force to overcome than sliding
  friction

• This occurs when an object travels through a
  fluid
• A fluid is a liquid or a gas
• Usually requires the least amount of force to
  overcome

• Discovered by Sir Isaac Newton
• States that gravity acts between all objects in
  the universe

Gravity

• The force that pulls objects towards each other
• The size of the objects and the distance between
  them will determine the magnitude of the force

• When gravity is the only force acting on an
  object it is said to be in a free fall
• It will accelerate at 9.8 m/s2 regardless of mass
  near the Earths surface

• You get projectile motion when an object is
  thrown
• Falls at the same rate as an object dropped
  straight down

• Fluid friction that slows objects as they travel
  through air
• When air resistance force of gravity the object
  reaches terminal velocity (fastest falling speed)
