What are some reasons why you think authors use
images, symbols, and motifs in literature?
  • to focus attention on what the writer wants the
    reader to notice
  • to create internal patterns within the literary
    work
  • to create a structural unity
  • to offer emphasis
  • to add interest/connection to the language
  • to lend continuity to the piece of literature and
between the piece an other pieces
