  • France lost much of their land in North America
  • Britain had a large debt and began taxing

Boston Massacre
  • Many soldiers stayed behind after the French and
    Indian War
  • Jobs became scarce, tensions rose
  • March 5, 1770- snowball fight broke out which
    turned into a fist fight
  • Mob gathered later that night to harass customs
    guards
  • 5 People were killed

  • Occurred in response to the Tea Act
  • Colonists (Sons of Liberty) dressed up like
    Native Americans and dumped 342 chests of tea
    into the Boston Harbor.

  • Tried to persuade loyalists and doubters to push
    for independence
  • Wanted everyone to revolt against England and
    become their own country
