7OCIO What Do We Do
- Design, engineer, build, a state-of-the-market IT
infrastructure for the new DOT Headquarters
Building - Manage 2.5 billion IT portfolio
- Support a consolidated common operating
environment for 10 operating administrations plus
the Office of the Secretary (OST) - Provide strategic direction for supporting IT
business strategies, new technology innovation,
policies and standards - Direct and coordinate IT shared services across
DOT

- Develop agency-wide policy on a variety of topics
including privacy, information assurance, capital
planning, and enterprise architecture - Conduct oversight of DOT compliance with various
laws and requirements report on compliance
within DOT and to external stakeholders (i.e.,
OMB, Congress, GAO) - Serve as agency focal point for other topics,
such as grants management - Operate the Common Operating Environment
- Plan and manage the IT portion of the move to the
new headquarters building

and implement procedures that provide the highest
possible level of protection of sensitive
information while allowing the Department to
carry out its mission effectively. - Business Partnership. Align Information
Technology with and provide support for
Departmental and Modal Business Goals and
Strategic Priorities. - FY 2007 Focus Governance
- FY 2008 Focus Project Management,
Department-wide Processes - Information Access/Web Services. Exchange
information in a consistent format and
easy-to-access manner with key external and
internal stakeholders, in particular the American
public. - Operations. Oversee the judicious use of
Departmental IT resources within declining
budgets and against increasing demands while
meeting or exceeding agreed to service level
agreements. - New Headquarters. Complete New Headquarters IT
infrastructure and IT relocations while providing
move support in a professional, transparent
fashion.
