Current Model

• US-centric traffic and network
• Limitation of physical network in Asia Pacific
  region
• Regulation issue in some countries including
  Indonesia
• Local contents are limited

Proposed Model

• Regionally-routed intra-Asia-Pacific traffic
• Physical network needs to be adjusted or built to
  accommodate Asia Pacific region
• Regulatory bodies need to setup a new environment
  for IP traffic i.e. treats IP traffic different
  from voice traffic
• Killer application/content for Asia Pacific
  region shall be determined
• QoS still has to be guaranteed even in public
  peering environment. The use of MPLS is
  encouraged.
• Cost-sharing model

• 2 (two) public peering sites
• Virtually all intra-Indonesian traffic are routed
  locally
• Supported by big ISPs
• Supported by local Telco
• Private peerings are encouraged
• QoS is guaranteed

• Covers 200 cities in Indonesia
• Backbone domestic network comprises of Gigabit
  Ethernet MAN, STM-1, E3 and E1
• 143 Mbps International Gateway
• Currently has 35,000 RAS ports throughout
  Indonesia
