  • Only comprehensive source of workforce data on
    nutritionists in state local PH agencies
  • 6 Previous surveys1985-2000
  • In 2000 10,904 positions surveyed (88 response
    rate)
  • Healthy People 2010 Goal 23
  • Ensure that Federal, Tribal, State, and local
    health agencies have the infrastrucutre to
    provide essential public health services
    effectively.

Project Timeframe
  • June 2005Preliminary presentation at ASTPHND
    meeting
  • October 2005 Training Resources available to
    state staff who will be implementing the survey
    in their states.
  • November 2005 a 1.5 hour training conference
    call will be offered on several different days
    and times to accommodate schedules and time
    zones.
  • January 2006 to March 2006 - Survey
    implementation
  • June 2006Preliminary results, ASTPHND 2006
  • Annual Meeting (based on USDA approval to
    present)
  • January 2007Final report submitted to USDA, FNS
    and preparing publications for peer-reviewed
    journals.

Next steps
  • Begin thinking about how to divide your state
    into appropriate districts/regions/metros how
    to work with local directors to implement survey.
  • Begin determining personnel type to complete
    survey
  • Plan for state implementation of the survey in
    January 2006.
  • Review orientation materials prior to Survey
    Implementation Training Calls in Sept.
    (orientation materials will be distributed prior
    to the Conference Calls)
