Resources Services
  • Labs
  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Services
  • Continuing Education Programs

3
Teaching Laboratories
  • The teaching laboratories include
  • Digital Design lab
  • Microprocessor-based systems lab
  • Computer Networks lab
  • System Design lab
  • Printed Circuit Board lab
  • Senior Design Project lab

4
Digital Design lab
  • Serves
  • COE 200 ( Intro to computer engineering ) course
which is a basic courses in this field.
  • Equipments
  • FPGA boards, hardware/software tools, integrated
circuits and discrete components. This lab
introduces the students to the practical side of
    the theory of digital logic.

5
Teaching Laboratories
  • Microprocessor-based systems lab
  • This lab supports teaching COE 305
    (Microprocessor Based Systems). Microprocessor
development kits based on 8085 microprocessors ,
an 8086 microprocessor , and peripheral chips are
provided. In this lab , COE 305 students are
taught to design an 8086 based system and program
it. The students connect their systems to
input/output units which is also designed by them

6
Teaching Laboratories
  • System Design lab
  • This lab supports COE 400 ( Digital System Design
) . It houses oscilloscopes , computers, and
prototyping kits for design and testing projects.
The lab allows students to integrate their
knowledge in hardware and software to design,
implement, debug and document a major digital
system. The twin learning experiences of making
    hardware versus software decisions, and
participating in structured design are preferably
    integrated into the same project.

7
Teaching Laboratories
  • Computer Networks lab
  • The main purpose of the computer networks
laboratory is to support courses related to
    networking and data communications. This
includes local area networks, wide area networks
and other network services. The idea behind this
is to enhance the theory taken by the students in
    these courses through conducting different
projects using the networking equipment available
in the lab.  It also supports research and senior
projects conducted by faculty and students.

8
Teaching Laboratories
  • Printed Circuit Board lab
  • This lab supports COE 400 (Digital System Design)
and senior projects. The lab houses all equipment
and chemicals necessary to make a professional
printed circuit board starting from scratch. In
addition , the lab has computer system and a
plotter to make professional PCB layouts.

9
Teaching Laboratories
  • Senior Design Project lab
  • This lab supports the senior year students in
    accomplishing their senior design project
courses. The lab is equipped with a variety of
software and hardware tools and equipments to
    cater the needs of students.

10
Research Laboratories
  • The research laboratories include
  • Performance Engineering lab
  • Robotics lab
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) lab

11
Services
  • Continuing Education Programs
  • The department offers a number of short courses
for people inside and outside KFUPM. Sample short
    courses include
  • Personal Computers Hardware Troubleshooting
  • Introduction to Network Management
  • IT Security Threats and Defenses
  • Wireless Local Area Networks The Wi-Fi
    Technology
  • Computer Network Design
  • Computer Networks (TCP/IP approach)

12
Services
  • Personal Computers Hardware Troubleshooting
  • An introductory short course on Personal
Computers but has wide coverage of Pentium 4
motherboards, bus slots, hard disk partitioning
    and formatting, upgrading, installing of
    operating system, troubleshooting, Adapters
(SCSI, ZIP/JAZ, Scanner, Ethernet NIC, and
Camera) preventive maintenance, PC Viruses and PC
    networking.

13
Services
  • Introduction to Network Management
  • This is an introductory short course on Network
Management (NM), including an overview of the
main NM concepts and NM architectures, protocols,
tools and applications. The course introduces
hands-on experience to the participants through
    laboratory experiments.

14
Services
  • IT Security Threats and Defenses
  • This is an introductory course on security and
protection issues in desktop computers, networks,
    and electronic information. Participants learn
about risks and threats facing computer networks
and desktop systems, as well as fundamentals of
    security measures and available defenses.

15
Services
  • Wireless Local Area Networks The Wi-Fi
    Technology
  • This course serves as an introduction to mobile
and wireless networks.  It covers topics such as
Multiple access schemes with emphasis on CDMA,
    IEEE802.11 WLANs protocols suite,  reliability
and security for Wi-Fi products,  integration
with wide-area mobile networks for operators,
    and Hotspot coverage.

16
Services
  • Computer Network Design
  • This course provides the participants with the
systematic design approaches by which he can meet
    his organization/customer requirements. The
course covers the major design steps and
    introduces hands-on experience to the
    participants through practical examples of
    enterprise Networks.

17
Services
  • Computer Networks (TCP/IP approach)
  • This course provides an in-depth description of
Computer Network Architectures, WANs and LANs,
    Protocols, Standards, and Hardware/Software
Elements. In particular, the course focuses on
the role of TCP/IP in supporting communications
    over the Internet
