WOOD is produced by lateral or secondary
meristems.

• Two directions of growth require two types of
  meristems
• .Primary growth length occurs at the apex
  tip of each root and stem branch in apical
  meristems, which we studied in earlier labs, but
  you will review them in lab slides. All plants
  have primary growth.
• .Secondary growth circumference, width, girth,
  diameter occurs around the circumference of some
  older stems and roots in lateral meristems.
