The Torch Awards Program
  • Inspires members to attain the goals and ideals
    of BPA
  • Promotes active participation by members at the
    local, state and national levels
  • Helps develop a better understanding of mankind
    through personal development and achievement
  • Recognizes members who have shown outstanding
    professional qualities

Four Levels of Torch Awards
  • Executive (Local) - 10 points
  • Diplomat (Regional) - 30 points
  • Statesman (State) - 50 points
  • Ambassador (National) - 70 points
  • Points are needed in each of seven divisions

The Torch Award Resume
  • Only the official resume will be accepted
  • Use Internet Explorer to go to www.bpa.org
  • Click on the free resume link
  • Fill in the online form
  • A word-processed resume will be accepted only if
    it follows the guidelines on pp. 43-47 of the
    Special Recognition/Torch Awards Handbook

Points
  • Accumulated throughout BPA membership in one
    division
  • Cannot use activities prior to BPA membership
  • Activities must be related to BPA unless
    otherwise specified
  • Each activity can only count once unless it is a
    major activity that can be broken into parts
  • Points are not recorded until the activity is
    completed

Recording the Activity
  • Use the proper code as found on pages 39-42 of
    the Special Recognition/Torch Awards Handbook
  • Include the month, day and year whenever
    possible.
  • For full year activity use school year (Example
    2005-2006)

  • Begin the description with an action verb
    (Examples served, attended, visited,
    campaigned)
  • Give a clear description of the activity
  • The number in parentheses following each activity
    description is how many times it can be used

Examples of Activities
  • 201 9/5/05 10 points Wrote an article about
    our chapter fundraising event for the region 1
    newsletter.
  • 109 2000-01 5 points Served as State Executive
    Historian.
  • 701 9/11/04 5 points Lead the Pledge of
    Allegiance at our chapter meeting.

  • I was in the Keyboarding contest at the State
    Leadership Conference on March 16, 2000.
  • I ran for state office during the Fall Leadership
    Conference, October 25 26, 2000.
  • I voted in the presidential election on November
    2, 2000.

  • 410 10 points 3/16/00 Competed in keyboarding
    at the State Spring Leadership Conference.
  • 108 10 points 10/25/00 10/26/00 Campaigned
    for state office during the Fall Leadership
    Conference.
  • 713S 15 points 11/2/00 Voted in the
    presidential election.

Submitting Your Resume
  • The local award is given after the first 10
    points in each area is completed
  • Your local advisor and vice president must
    approve the resume
  • The region award is given after 30 points are
    completed
  • Submit to your region vice president according to
    their deadline date

  • The state award is given after 50 points are
    completed
  • Submit your resume to the State Executive Vice
    President by February 15 check the state
    website
  • The national award is given after 70 points are
    completed
  • Submit your completed, signed resume to the
    national office
  • If you have corrections, you must submit the
    corrected resume to the Nat'l Center--FAX it!
  • If you submit after 3/15/06 you will receive the
    award after the NLC
  • Check the national website for 2006 dates, which
    may change because of the late date of NLC

Final Checklist
  • The following items should be checked by the
    advisor, the local vice president and the student
    before submitting
  • The description meets the requirements of the
    code
  • Each code is not used more than the allowable
    number
  • Include all required information to fulfill the
    code
  • Each description begins with an action verb
  • You have not duplicated an activity in more than
    one division
  • E.g. You used a fundraiser as an activity in
    leadership you cannot use the same fundraiser in
    cooperation each activity may only be used once.
  • Total number of points is correct for each
    division
  • Total points are listed on front of resume
  • Proofread for spelling and grammar
  • Sign the resume on the front cover
