3Respiration.
The respiratory and circulatory systems are
responsible for delivering energy to all the
cells of the body. This energy enters the body
as energy gas or food. The respiratory is also
responsible for releasing much of the waste
product of oxygen The equation for this
is. Oxygenglucose CO2waterenergy. Withou
t respiration our muscles would have the energy
to move our limbs.(Contract).
4Aerobic Respiration
In aerobic respiration glucose reacts with oxygen
in the mitochondria of the cells to release
energy. CO2 and H2O are by-products of the
reaction. Glucoseoxygen. Energyh20(water
vapour)CO2 Aerobic respiration is the release
of energy from Glucose or another organic
substrate in the presence of Oxygen. Aerobic
means air, but is the Oxygen in the air which
necessary for aerobic respiration.
5Anaerobic respiration
Anaerobic respiration occurs when oxygen is not
available in aerobic respiration. This is only
partially broken down and the lactic acid is
produced. Together they produce a much smaller
amount of energy than aerobic respiration. Glucos
e Lactic acidenergy.
6Anaerobic and aerobic resperation
Endurance events mostly aerobic.(Marathon) Aerobi
c fitness is needed to make endurance athletes
muscles work over long period of time. In
endurance events the body must work at a level
that allows the removal of waste products
including lactic acid at a rate greater than that
which they accumulate. This cannot go on
forever. In a 1500m race for example the runner
must run at a constant speed that can be
maintained for the duration f the race. This
will be determined on how fit the runner is.
7Speed and Power Events
Anaerobic activity is different to aerobic
activity. It involves performance of work
without oxygen. Activities such as sprinting and
throwing and jumping events require maximum
effort which pushes muscles into short term
anaerobic work.
8Questions

mainly aerobic respiration?
2) Think of 2 events or games where performers
use anaerobic respiration?
