The Issues

• How do we ensure some compatibility between STAR
  and IAPT supervision training?
• It seems ridiculous to expect CPs that have just
  done STAR to do a 5-6-7 day IAPT supervision
  training programme
• Similarly, it seems ludicrous that a CP who has
  had to do the IAPT supervision training programme
  then has to do a 3-4 day STAR programme to gain
  accreditation as a supervisor

• I have undertaking a mapping exercise to see how
  this problem can be overcome

Adapting IAPT for STAR

• It is possible to adapt the IAPT competencies in
  a fairly minimal way to include STAR learning
  objectives (see document)
• This ensures that anyone undertaking the IAPT
  training will then be eligible for STAR
  accreditation

• It is also possible to adapt the STAR LOs to
  ensure that anyone undertaking the STAR training
  will have met many of the IAPT competencies
• One of these we may argue should be incorporated
  under STAR..??
• Namely- Ability to conduct supervision in group
  formats
• - (we try to do this locally anyway)

• Other competencies may be left to IAPT-
• Especially- Application of supervision to
  specific models/contexts
• It could then be reasonably argued that anyone
  who has completed STAR would only have to
  complete some specific IAPT training (e.g.
  supervision of low intensity interventions)

A Local, Practical Solution

• Sheffield has to provide all IAPT supervisor
  training for the Yorkshire and Humber SHA
• We also have to ensure we provide STAR training
• We plan to deliver IAPT training on a 3-2-2 day
  model (3 days generic, 2 days low intensity
  intervention, 2 day high intensity interventions)

A Local. Practical Solution

• The 3 day generic IAPT training will be
  sufficient for CPs to be able to get STAR
  accreditation in the future
• For those who have just completed STAR, or who do
  next year, we will ensure they have covered the
  generic competencies and to be IAPT compliant
  will only have to complete the 2 (or 4 day)
  training
