Dead Leaf Butterfly
  • Its named because it is underside looks like a
    leaf
  • There is an incredible variety with the underside
    patterns and colors.
  • This butterfly has a very interesting wing shape.
  • Origin China. Wingspan 2 1/2 inches.
  • The dead leaf butterfly is an exemplary mimic.

Io Moth
  • The Io Moth, named for a character in Greek
    mythology.
  • Males are golden yellow in color, but females are
    more brown.
  • It has a wingspan of 2.5-3.5 inches.
  • In Canada and northern states, the Io Moth
    produces only one brood a year.
  • Farther south in the U.S., they may produce two
    broods.
  • Both sexes are attracted to light and fly when
    air temperatures are higher than 45 degrees F and
    7 C.

Ghost moth
  • The Ghost Moth, also known as the Ghost Swift, is
    a moth of the family Hepialidae.
  • It is common throughout Europe except for the far
    southeast.
  • This species is now considered the only species
    in the genus Hepialus which previously included
    several other species now reclassified into other
    genera.
