Course Objectives

• Introduce basic concepts and theories in the
  filed of strategic management
• Practice strategic management skills through real
  world case analyses
• Train leadership responsibilities and work with
  other people in teams
• Develop both oral and written communication
  abilities
• Conduct effective organizational research.

Course Requirements

• Individual Class Participation (15)
• Attendance (partial or whole) and participation
  during the semester
• Sign-in sheet and TA observations
• Individual Reading Article Discussion (15)
• Discussion leading for a reading article (from
  the reading packet)
• Submission of an individual article review (2-3
  pages)
• Individual Case Analysis (15)
• A two to three page (double spaced) case analysis
  for a designated case WFNX-101.7 FM and Bostons
  Radio Wars from the reading packet
• Due at the beginning of the third class
• Group Case Discussion (25)
• Research one company from the list in the
  syllabus
• Submit a two to three page analysis (double
  spaced)
• Conduct discussion to the class at designated
  class time

• Exam (30)
• Contains 50 multiple choice questions and takes
  two hours
• Covers concepts and theories in Chapters 1 to 13
• Can bring notes on two regular size pages (each
  double sided)
• Exam date 4/20/2007
• Final Grade (100)
• Based on the weighted average of the above four
  requirements
• Final grade checking office hour Noon 200 PM,
  4/23/2007, at the instructors office

• Students are responsible for proper conducts and
  for following specific requirements and dates in
  the syllabus
• Updates, if any, will be posted at the
  instructors web site (www.utdallas.edu/zlin)
  and also announced in the class.
• E-mail and phone communications will NOT involve
  discussions of specific grade information
• No late or electronic submissions of assignments
• No make-up exam or lecture

Other Class Matters

• Forming Groups
• There should be a total of nine (9) groups, each
  with 3 to 4 people
• Selection of a Company for Group Case Selection
• Each group selects one from the list not yet been
  chosen
• Designation of Discussion Leaders for Readings
• Student can provide preference to the instructor
  in first class
• The instructor will finalize the designation list
  before second class
• Short Survey
• Turn in at the end of the class
