Population Most Affected By
  • People who play around in soil, sand or dirt
that contains human feces. Children are the most
common because they play in the dirt and go
barefoot and are at high risks of getting it.

4
Systems of the Body Most Affected
  • The skin, lungs, liver, and intestines are
    the organs most affected.

5
Causes
  • The only cause is having contact with the
    hookworm disease.

6
Preventions
  • Dont walk barefoot or use bare hands in
soil, dirt or sand. In areas where hookworm is
common or where feces might likely be.

7
Treatment
  • Light infections are not usually going to be
treated. In the U.S. hookworm infections are
usually treated for 1-3 days with medication
prescribed by your health care provider.

8
Prognosis
  • The prognosis for patients with hookworm
disease is generally good. Re-infection rates are
extremely high in countries with poor sanitation.

9
Method of Transmission
  • The most common method of hookworm
transmission is through the feces of dogs.
Hookworm eggs pass through the feces of infected
dogs and hatch into larvae. These larvae can be
swallowed by a healthy dog or penetrate through
the dog's skin or foot pad. Mother dogs can give
hookworms to their puppies through their milk.

10
Potential for Use as Weapon
