2Roe Green Loop Line Cycleway Phase 2
Roe Green loop line cycleway phase 2 re-opened to
the public on the 23rd May. The 1.2km cycleway
is the second phase to be constructed on the
former railway line cycle route, which runs from
Little Hulton down to Monton Green, some 7km long.
The ride will start at Tynesbank and take in the
new phase 2 and continue on to the end of the
route turning round at Cleggs Lane and returning
back to Tynesbank for those that feel energetic
enough to manage the full 3.5km. Works of art
including murals and bridge painting have been
created by local schools and community groups.
These art workings show visitors to the area
that the local people take pride in the leisure
areas around them and that with time the route
will be a popular place to exercise on or simply
take a relaxing stroll along.
The attached photos show the surface dressing
being laid at the site of the former Little
Hulton railway station which was found to be
buried in nettles and brambles, and suffering
from neglect and a lady trying out the newly laid
surface by bicycle. The station has now been
renovated with new timbers, and surfacing of the
platforms, and steps leading down from the A6.
