entities capable of carrying out the legislative
purpose.

- No planning year allowed Projects should be
ready to enroll students in the first possible
semester/quarter after funding.
8Guidelines for AEN Programs
- Graduates must be eligible for national nursing
organization certification in advanced practice
(one of the four advanced practice registered
nurse roles (APRN)) or in another recognized
advanced area of nursing practice that is not one
of the four APRN roles. - The applicant must indicate the guidelines and
- competencies used by the program(s) seeking
- support.

(CCNE). - Both institutional and graduate nursing program
accreditations are required before the
application can be considered for funding.

- New programs that are not yet accredited must
provide documentation from the Department of
Education that indicates reasonable assurance
that the program will meet the accreditation
standards of NLNAC or CCNE prior to the beginning
of the academic year following the normal
graduation date of students of the first entering
class. - Documentation of the assurance from the
Department of Education must be submitted with
the application. - New graduate programs should contact the
Department of Education, Accreditation and State
Liaison Unit at (202) 219-7011 and follow
instructions in the application guidance.

- New programs (i.e. tracks/specialties, masters
and doctoral) must identify all steps in the
approval process and provide documentation of
approvals, i.e. copy of letter or meeting minutes

accreditation by the Division of Accreditation of
the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM)

Program Requirements

accreditation from the American Association of
Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Council on

application. - New nurse anesthetist programs - evidence of
initial accreditation or accreditation must be
