Eligibility
  • Accredited schools of nursing

    entities capable of carrying out the legislative
    purpose.

  • No planning year allowed Projects should be
    ready to enroll students in the first possible
    semester/quarter after funding.

Guidelines for AEN Programs
  • Graduates must be eligible for national nursing
    organization certification in advanced practice
    (one of the four advanced practice registered
    nurse roles (APRN)) or in another recognized
    advanced area of nursing practice that is not one
    of the four APRN roles.
  • The applicant must indicate the guidelines and
  • competencies used by the program(s) seeking
  • support.

  • Research Doctoral program applications should be
    consistent with the most recent indicators for
    doctoral education, Indicators of Quality in
    Research Focused Doctoral Programs in Nursing
    published by the American Association of Colleges
    of Nursing (AACN).
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Programs should
    be consistent with current AACN Essentials of
    Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice.

  • A collegiate school of nursing graduate program
    must be accredited by a national nursing
    accrediting agency recognized by the Secretary of
    Education.
  • National League for Nursing Accreditation
    Commission (NLNAC) or
  • Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
    (CCNE).
  • Both institutional and graduate nursing program
    accreditations are required before the
    application can be considered for funding.

  • New programs that are not yet accredited must
    provide documentation from the Department of
    Education that indicates reasonable assurance
    that the program will meet the accreditation
    standards of NLNAC or CCNE prior to the beginning
    of the academic year following the normal
    graduation date of students of the first entering
    class.
  • Documentation of the assurance from the
    Department of Education must be submitted with
    the application.
  • New graduate programs should contact the
    Department of Education, Accreditation and State
    Liaison Unit at (202) 219-7011 and follow
    instructions in the application guidance.

Requirements
  • Must provide evidence of pre-accreditation or
    accreditation by the Division of Accreditation of
    the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM)
    with the application.
  • New programs - evidence of pre-accreditation must
    be submitted with the application.

Program Requirements
  • Full-time nurse anesthetist education
  • Evidence of initial accreditation or
    accreditation from the American Association of
    Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Council on
    Accreditation (COA) of Nurse Anesthesia
    Educational Programs must be provided with the
    application.
  • New nurse anesthetist programs - evidence of
    initial accreditation or accreditation must be
    submitted with the application on December ,
    2009. Evidence of program approvals from COA for
    major program changes must submitted with the
    application also.
