- 2006 successful year last PLASC and first termly
collections - 2007 sees primaries and specials SC for first
time - All to learn lessons of 2006 and apply them to
2007 and beyond
52. NEW DATA ITEMS
- Pupil's Mode of Travel data collected for the
first time Census from January 2007 List of
schools taking part email LA/1723x/2005 on 21st
August 2006 Compulsory for schools on list
(January) - Change to the First Language indicator, new list
of Language codes to be used by schools within
their MIS (All)
6NEW DATA ITEMS
- Post-16 Learning Aims (September School Census
onwards) collected in Autumn Census only from
schools with sixth forms. 5 new data items - Qualification Accreditation Number (QAN) A valid
entry from a database of QANs - Learning Aim Start date - date on which learning
for learning aim began - Learning Aim Planned End Date date by which
school and learner plan to complete learning
related to aim

- Class Size
- KS1 and Reception classes
- Planning Preparation Assessment (PPA) - schools
to record actual situation at given time. If
teacher out of class with assistant taking it,
record and mark teacher not being in class in the
reconciliation - When DfES check large classes, will ring school
if they haven't already recorded something in the
notepad and record the number of teachers on PPA.

11GUIDANCE
- If, at time of the count, children are involved
in one of the excepted activities i.e. a large
group activity such as music, drama or watching
TV, the count should be deferred to the next
'ordinary' teaching session

- DfES visited some authorities in 2006 to look at
audit trails - May want to contact authority Class Size
colleagues and ask them to review figures before
releasing to DfES

Attendance data expected from all pupils of
compulsory school age, both 'On Roll' and 'No
Longer On Roll' for any attending the school for
at least one session during the period Start of
Autumn Term 2006 to 31 December 2006

- Universal interest in data quality and accuracy
of funding allocations - Need to carry on with the data checking exercises
we conducted in early 2006 and learn the lessons
from those processes all censuses, particularly
January eg, processing of all outstanding
amendments before provisional data publication

sticking to all deadlines set to ensure we have
accurate data for funding allocations - From release of funded pupils numbers (early
April 07), amendments given over the phone must
be followed up by confirmatory e-mail or
amendment(s) cannot be made - Amendments/resubmissions received after agreed
deadlines will be recorded but not actioned for
Dedicated Schools Grant purposes
22TIMETABLES/FUNDING ARRANGEMENTS
- NMSS, CTCs and Academies must adhere to the
return deadlines also
