Region 4 Mission
  • Mission Statement
  • Represent IEEE throughout our geographic area by
    providing excellent support to all sections,
    subsections, chapters and student branches so
    they may in turn provide value to IEEE members

Region 4 Goals
  • Effective training for section/chapter officers
  • Effective and timely communications between
    region and sections/chapters
  • Understand needs of sections/chapters- feedback
  • Strong support for technical and professional
    activities for our sections/chapters
  • Promote our profession to students and public
  • Promote recognition of members and leaders in the
    region

Training Strategy
  • Train section/chapter chair/chair-elects at
    Region meeting- Area Chairs
  • Treasurers- Bob Dawson
  • Secretary- Bill Gorder
  • Student Activities- Jim Riess
  • Professional Activities- Tarek Lahdhiri
  • Program- Sat Basu
  • Newsletter/webmaster- Bob Evanich
  • Membership Development- Bob Adams
  • Gold- Kristi Brooks

Training Plans
  • Job Descriptions- make sure people know what we
    want them to do by 4/1
  • Create training materials- PowerPoint, mostly
    completed
  • First pass of training- conference call with
    presentation sent ahead of time 3/1. Post to
    Region web site for use
  • Create a place on Region web site for training
    materials Jensen/Evanich- completed
  • Include feedback on training to ensure
    improvement
  • Regular Strategic Planning conference calls to
    continue plans and ensure completion, 3rd
    Wednesday at 8AM
  • Gather feedback from Region meeting to determine
    training needed at next meeting

Communications Plan
  • Encourage all sections to have web sites that
    list technical meetings available to members-
    Sections are owners
  • Link to neighboring section web sites
  • Encourage section members to participate in
    meetings in neighboring areas by providing
    reminders and links
  • Add contacts in neighboring sections for
    electronic newsletters
  • Create a page on region web site to link to all
    sections to find technical meetings- Bob Evanich
  • Or, develop an automated system that will allow
    the Region to pull technical meeting data from
    section web sites.
  • Sections to create an XML file on web site to
    contain meeting data
  • Script will collect and compile into a calendar
    on a daily basis
  • Probably some notification of when data has
    changed
  • Sections responsible for notifying members to
    look
  • Perhaps a Region email quarterly to all members

Communications Plan continued
  • Quarterly conference call by each area chair with
    Section leadership
  • Area chairs to visit sections (2 to3 per year).

Awards Plan
  • Proactively work for awards submissions for
    Region, RAB, IEEE-USA, TAB, EAB, and IEEE
  • Make list of awards that are available
  • Ensure that submission dates are known
  • Ensure that applications are available
  • Track applications

Region Committee Position Goals
  • All Region committee members (including section
    chairs) to develop goals for their
    position/section for 2004
  • Goals to report to Region Director,
    Director-Elect and Secretary by 3/1
  • Distribute collection of goals to Region
    Committee by 3/15
  • Review goals at LRSPC meeting in March
    teleconference
