Day 2 - Calculator Inactive, Day 3 Reading
    Comprehension.
  • All students write first and last name on test
book, and all may write in the book. Answers
must be bubbled on answer sheet. Must use same
answer sheet for both portions of the Math to
    receive a valid Math score.

(NCEXT1, LEP, and absent) except visiting
    students

7
Gr3 Pretest - Administration
  • As early in the school day as the school
    schedule permits.
  • Afternoon administrations are prohibited.
  • All three tests ARE timed. Provide all students
ample opportunity to complete up to the maximum
    time allowed.

8
Gr3 Pretest Calculators
  • No sharing!
  • Memory must be cleared by TC/Test Administrator
    before and after testing
  • Minimum requirement is four-function with memory
    key
  • Additional features that are not restricted are
allowed but not required (e.g. graphing
features). Be careful and check to see that the
student has routinely used that type of
    calculator.
  • Restrictions
  • See list of prohibited calculator models
    (separate sheet provided)
  • No QWERTY keyboards (typewriter style)
  • No included computer algebraic system (CAS)
capable of symbolic algebra (i.e. factoring,
expanding, or simplifying given variable output),
    or symbolic calculus.
  • No cell phones, handheld microcomputers,
pen-input devices such as PDAs or tablets, or
    laptop/notebook computers

9
Accommodations
  • See page 16 of the Math Pretest TAM for allowed
    accommodations.
  • Test Administrator read-aloud and signing/cueing
accommodations are allowed FOR MATH TESTS ONLY as
    specified in IEP/504.
  • New script included for Read Aloud and Read Aloud
upon request accommodations on Math tests. (See
    TAM page 37 and 45)
  • Read-aloud MATH may be one-on-one, or small group
if all have the same form of the test.
  • Read-aloud-to-self accommodations must be in
    one-on-one sessions.
  • Multiple session accommodations can be completed
    in the afternoon.
  • EXT1 and NCCLAS alternate assessments. EXT2
    students take general assessment.
  • Mark-in-book accommodations recorded on the test
booklet with signature of transcriber and
    verifier, and date of transcription.

10
Accommodations contd (2)
  • Freedom of choice is not an option
  • No surprises on test day. IEP/504 must already
    be in place.
  • Must be specified in IEP or 504.
  • Use it or report it and do it again.
  • When in doubt, ask in advance.

11
Accommodations contd (3)
  • For any State-mandated test, the accommodation
must (1) be documented in the students current
IEP or Section 504 Plan and (2) the documentation
must reflect routine use during instruction and
similar classroom assessments that measure the
same construct. However, in cases where the
    documentation is not consistent with
    accommodations used during instruction, the
student is to receive the accommodations
specified in the current IEP or Section 504 Plan
although this could adversely affect student
performance. It is vital for students with
    disabilities to receive accommodations on
State-mandated tests that allow them to
    demonstrate their true abilities however,
students must not receive unnecessary or
    inappropriate accommodations.
  • Testing Students with Disabilities, Pg. A1.06

12
Gr3 Pretest - Procedures
  • Test books are NOT to be distributed until after
    the Student Background Information is
    completed/checked
  • TC must be notified if Test Administrator or
Proctor leave the room (see pg 39, 46, and 51 of
    Pretest TAM)
  • No 5-minute warning given for breaks or end of
    test.
  • Each test is subdivided into sections. Students
continue through sections until reaching the next
test. Big challenge to keep students in the
proper section of the test and answer sheet.
Requires constant attention of Test Administrator
    and Proctor, especially after breaks.
  • Review of answer sheets for stray marks, etc.
must be with 3 or more personnel in secure
setting. No test booklets may be present.
  • Test Item Review is available 0n-line. May be
completed by Gr3 math curriculum teachers and EC
or EP teachers. Requires user id and password
    assigned by school TC.

13
Gr3 Pretest - Procedures contd (2)
  • Procedures for situations that may occur during
    testing
  • Misalignment See TAM page 21.
  • If a student is not marking the number on the
answer sheet that matches the number of the test
question after the student was checked at the
beginning of the actual test administration, the
test administrator must use his/her best judgment
to determine whether the error can be corrected
during the testing session. In the least
    disruptive manner possible, the test
administrator may notify a student that the
    responses are misaligned.
  • Note Local personnel are not permitted to alter
student responses to test items on the answer
    sheets.

14
Gr3 Pretest - Procedures contd (3)
  • Procedures for situations that may occur during
    testing
  • Wrong Part of Test Book See TAM page 39, 46, 52
  • If a student is working in the wrong part of the
test book after the student was checked at the
beginning of the actual test administration, (1)
the proctor must remove the student from the
testing session and (2) the testing irregularity
    form must be completed.
  • Note Local personnel are not permitted to alter
student responses to test items on the answer
    sheets.

15
Gr3 Pretest - Procedures contd (4)
  • Procedures for situations that may occur during
    testing
  • Wrong Part of Answer Sheet See TAM page 39, 46,
    52
  • If a student is not marking the appropriate part
of the answer sheet (e.g., marking answers to the
mathematics test in the reading part of the
answer sheet) after the student was checked at
the beginning of the actual test administration,
    (1) the test administrator must note the time
tested, (2) the proctor must remove the student
from the testing session, and (3) the school test
coordinator must determine if the recorded
student responses can be transferred. If so, the
testing session continues. If not, a
    misadministration must be declared.
  • Note Local personnel are not permitted to alter
student responses to test items on the answer
    sheets.

16
Gr3 Pretest - Special Codes
  • See page 59-61 of TAM.
  • To be entered on all Gr3 Pretest answer sheets
  • Final Math and Reading Grades from Grade 2
  • Anticipated Achievement Levels for Math and
Reading at the End of Grade 3
  • Will need information from 2nd Grade teacher,
    NCWISE, or student records.
  • Plan ahead so the information is available when
the Answer Sheet Review is completed.

17
Test-Day Procedures
  • Wall displays removed/covered.
  • At no time are proctors to be alone with the
student test booklets or state test
administration materials. Proctors are not to
pick up test materials from or return test
materials to the school test coordinator at the
beginning or the end of testing unless
accompanied by the appropriate school personnel.
  • No additional materials given to students during
the test administration, except blank paper,
    graph paper, or pencils.

18
Test-Day Procedures contd
  • Test Administrator is NOT permitted to omit,
    rewrite, clarify, paraphrase, interpret, explain,
provide synonyms for the instructions, or provide
assistance in answering the questions in any
    manner.
  • Follow school-specified procedures concerning
students reading other materials (novels or other
non-textbook materials) while waiting for other
    students to complete tests.
  • It is recommended that students NOT be allowed to
    bring anything into the session.

19

Test Security Accounting for Materials (2)
  • Under no circumstances will TCs allow Test
Administrators to keep any type of test materials
overnight (except TAMs and Pretest Activity
    forms).
  • If answer sheets are issued to test
administrators prior to the actual test date for
data verification, etc., all answer sheets must
be returned and secured by the Test Coordinator
at the end of the day.
  • Test Coordinators must verify that issued test
materials of any type have been returned to them
at the end of each day.
  • Keeping test materials in classrooms is not
allowed, even when locked in filing cabinets or
    desks.

28
Test Administrators and Proctors
  • Test Administrators and Proctors must be present
in session AT ALL TIMES. Absence of Test
    Administrator will probably constitute
    misadministration.
  • Test Administrator may leave the session only in
an emergency and must notify the TC.
  • Proctors must remain in the test session, except
    in an emergency.
  • Proctors dont read directions or assist students
to select answers, or to modify, change, alter,
or tamper with student responses to test
questions. Proctors do not review answer sheets
    for scannability.
  • Proctors are required for every test session
    even one-on-one.
  • Proctors and Test Administrators may not do other
work or read during test session. Their sole
focus for the duration of the test session is the
    administration of the test.

29
Test Administrators and Proctors contd
  • Proctors and Test Administrators must be
attentive exclusively to the testing session.
They may not do other work or reading while the
    test session is in progress.
  • Test Administrators and Proctors are to move
quietly about the room and scan the students
work areas to ensure that students are following
the test directions, performing the required
    tasks, and not sharing responses.

30
Responsibilities
  • State Board of Education Policy list of specific
    Test Administrator and Proctor responsibilities
    includes

students work areas to ensure that students are
following the test directions, performing the
required tasks, and not sharing responses.

31
Test Coordinator Accessibility
  • The school test coordinator must be
accessible to test administrators and proctors
during the administration of secure state tests.
Due to the accessibility requirement, the school
test coordinator must not be given the
    responsibility of administering a test.
  • No exceptions.

32
Avoid Misadministrations
  • Remove instructional wall displays.
  • Glasses and medications must be utilized, as
    prescribed, during testing.
  • Make sure proper calculators are available and
memories cleared before and after testing.
  • Do not provide instruction the morning of
    testing.
  • Windows of testing rooms must be uncovered or
    classroom door must remain open.

33
Avoid Misadministrations contd
  • No off-level testing. Check before test day.
  • DO NOT put materials on desks before the students
are seated. Hand out all materials in strict
accordance with the script in the TAM.
  • AFTER handing out the materials, move students as
necessary so that forms are distributed to
    prevent sharing.
  • Make sure each students form/color answer sheet
    matches their test book.
  • Verify the test book form matches the form
bubbled by the student on his or her answer
    document.

34
A Gentle Reminder
  • The best time to prevent misadministrations is
during training for the Test Administrators and
    Proctors.
