•   Albany Congress Meeting of
  delegates/representatives from 7 colonies and the
  6 Iroquois nations in Albany, NY in 1754
•  Organized by Ben Franklin of PA

•   2 Goals 1). Get guarantee of Iroquois help
  against French, 2). Organize a united defense
  against the French
• REMEMBER, THE COLONIES ARE NOT A COUNTRY YET
  ENGLAND IS FAR AWAY---JUST A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT
  COLONIES

Results of Plan of Union

•   Plan called for GRAND COUNCIL with reps from
  each colony.
•   Council would have power to make laws, raise
  taxes, organize common defense
•    Delegates all agreed and voted to accept Plan
  of Union

Results continued. . .

•   However, it was rejected by all 7 colonial
  assemblies
•   No colony wanted to give up government power
  to central government authority
•   This is a hint of troubles to come after the
  Revolution
