2What does the middle school schedule look like?
- School begins at 735 and ends at 238.
(Wednesday ends at 248) - There are 5 classes (Math, Science, Social
Studies, Language Arts, Fine and Practical
Arts/Physical Education) that are approximately
60 minutes long. There is also an
Enrichment/Intervention period for 45 minutes
each day. - The order of classes changes daily.
3How are schedules assigned?
- Student schedules will be developed from
information provided by the elementary schools. - Students who have been identified as Challenge
Students are grouped into Clusters and their
needs addressed in the general education
classroom in conjunction with the Challenge
teacher. - Students who have been identified as Special
Education students are grouped into Clusters and
their needs addressed in the general education
classroom and flexible grouping. - Class sizes range from 20 to 35.
- We have several co-taught classes.
4What is difference between Fine and Practical
Arts and Specials?
- Fine and Practical Arts are Music, Health and
Human Services, Art, Computers, and Tech Ed. - Each of these classes last for 18 days.
5How is Physical Education different?
- Students will have Physical Education every other
day throughout the entire school year. - Students are expected to dress in a Physical
Education uniform each day for class. They are
also expected to have appropriate shoes. - Students should bring pencil and paper to
physical education class as well. - Students are expected to participate in all
activities to the best of their ability.
6Will the cafeteria work the same way?
- Students will be assigned an account number, like
in elementary school. - Students will have the usual lunch choice and can
then supplement their lunch with snacks and
juices. - Students receiving free and reduced lunch in
elementary school will receive free and reduced
lunch in middle school until the forms have been
turned in.
7How much homework should I expect?
- Homework may be assigned every night. There will
be Math and Language Arts homework every night at
least. - Very rarely will homework assignments be
completed during the school day. (No Study Hall)
- Long Term projects may be assigned on top of
regular assignments. - The key to being successful is writing down all
assignments in your assignment book and making a
schedule.
8How do I get in touch with teachers?
- E-mail

- Notes in the planner (assignment book)
- Parent Teacher Conferences (schedule through the
guidance office) - Parent Teacher Conference Night
9How can I stay on top of events at NEMS?
- Web Site (The website is updated as time permits,
therefore does not always reflect all events.) - The sign at the front of the building
- Newsletters (sent home with interims or report
cards, quarterly) - County Calendar
10Lockers
- Students are assigned a locker for their personal
use. - Students are not to share lockers.
- There are set locker times throughout the day.
11When will I find out the Bus Schedule?
- Bus Routes and Pick up times will be mailed to
your house prior to the start of school.
Specific bus questions should be directed to the
CCPS transportation office. - Students must ride their assigned bus. They will
not be permitted to ride a bus with a friend for
any reason.
12Curriculum
- In middle school there is more emphasis placed on
content knowledge. - County Produced Tests in Language Arts, Math, and
Science. - Emphasis is placed on deadlines. Late
assignments are penalized.

13What is this about a week long field trip?
- Every 6th grader has the opportunity to attend
North Bay, an outdoor adventure learning
experience. - September 24 - 28, 2007
14JUMPSTART
- Students have the opportunity to tour the
building, practice with lockers, learn to read a
schedule, and meet new friends. - There are three sessions to choose from. Spots
will be assigned on a first come, first serve
basis. - Sign up today!
