What is a Learning Disability?

• Learning involves four stages of information
  processing
• input brain takes in and records info. relayed
  by the senses
• integration brain interprets the info.
• memory brain stores the info. for later
  retrieval
• output learner reproduces the info. through
  language or motor activity

Facts and Myths

• LD is not the same as low intelligence
• Students with a learning disability generally
  have average to above-average intelligence
• Approximately 1 in every 7 people in the U.S. has
  a learning disability

• Prenatal factors or problems during delivery
• Illness/injury in infancy or early childhood
