Title: Eastmont High School WoodConstruction Technology

1
Eastmont High School
Wood/Construction Technology
  • The purpose of this Wood/Construction Technology
class is to provide you with a chance to learn
and apply basic wood working and construction
    skills.

2
Eastmont High School
Wood/Construction Technology
  • The emphasis is on developing professional work
habits that will benefit you in the workforce,
    regardless of your career choice.

3
Levels
  • You will begin working at Level One during your
    first semester of Wood/Construction Technology.
  • If you complete the required projects and pass
the class with a score of 85 or better, you will
be able to advance to Level Two next semester.
  • During your second semester you will be working
to complete additional projects, competencies and
classroom assignments in order to advance to
    Level Three.
  • Level Three students are expected to be
independent, competent woodworkers and are then
given the freedom and responsibility of working
independently on projects of their choice.

4
Grades
  • Part of your grade throughout the semester will
be based on Professional Work Habit points.
  • If you do everything that is expected during the
week you will receive 30 of 33 points.
  • You will have to go above and beyond what is
expected to get the extra 3 points.
  • A willingness to help Mr. Howard and others are
two great examples of earning extra points.
  • You can loose points by not wearing safety
glasses, not working, being disruptive, etc (See
    Class Expectations.)

5
Grades
  • Part of your grade throughout the semester will
be based on required projects. Refer to the last
    page of your BYS packet.

6
Important!
  • You will need to use your shop time
efficiently in order to get these projects done
on time. Its possible that many of you will have
to make one or more of your projects over. You
may have to come in during "Opportunities". The
shop will be open Monday's, Tuesday's and
Thursday's until 255. This is a good time to get
    individual instructions from me.

7
REQUIRED MATERIALS
  • Safety glasses can be purchased in the vending
    machine for 4.00.
  • 15.00 shop fee. This fee helps pay for
consumable material in the shop i.e., fasteners,
abrasives, finishes, and glue. This fee must be
paid before students can work in the shop.
  • You are required to purchase your own wood and
specialty hardware if you choose not to use the
materials provided. Wood will be provided for
required projects unless you want to upgrade.

8
Class Permission Form and Trust Agreement
  • Your son/daughter is enrolled in a Woodworking
class this semester. The purpose of this letter
is to inform you that every precaution is taken
    to avoid accidents.
  • . Your son/daughter will be using various power
machinery that could cause injury if not used
    properly.
  • . A thorough safety unit will be given on these
machines before they can be used.

9
Continue.
  • In addition, it is important that all students
using these machines use them in a reasonable and
    mature manner.
  • This will require their full concentration and
attention to all aspects of working in the
    woodshop.
  • Also, many different kinds of finishes, paints,
solvents and glues are used in the shop that can
cause damage to clothing, backpacks and other
personal items your son/daughter might bring to
    class
  • Shop coats and rubber gloves will be available to
help with this issue but your child will want to
    take further precautions.

10

  • In addition to what is covered in our class
safety unit, I am asking for your cooperation in
