8Continuum of Positive Behavior Support Systems
- For Universal practices to become part of the
climate and culture of your school - Usually takes 1-2 years to reach that initial
goal on the SET but may take 3-5 years for
Universal practices / systems to become imbedded
in your schools culture. - Staff must be on board for change to occur.
- Staff behavior must change before student
behavior will change. - Administrators must hold staff accountable before
staff student change will occur -
Remember, PBS is a process!
9- For while teaching will forever be in part an
art, its foundations can and should rest on the
sciences of human behavior. - Gordon, DeStefano Shipman, 1985
10- Quality is never an accident. It is the result
of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent
direction and skillful execution. - Willa Foster
11Making Implementation Effective
- To reach your goal of effective implementation of
universal practices, must have a strong initial
implementation followed by careful monitoring

14Effective Implementation
- 1. Using T-M-F Administrative
- Role of administrative team is critical.
- Administrators must make implementing PBS a top
priority, set the tone and be the leader. - Principal must set expectations in 3 ways 1) for
implementation, 2) for student behavior, and 3)
for staff behavior (encourage, motivate and hold
staff accountable). - Without active teaching, monitoring and feedback
from administrators (especially the principal),
PBS will NOT be as effective. - Principal must actively participate in and with
the PBS Team. - Entire Administrative team must actively
participate in T-M-F cycle.
