What is a mudslide?

• A mudslide is a river of rock, earth, and debris
  that is full of water. It slides down hills very
  quickly and causes destruction.
• It is unexpected.

What Causes Mudflows?

• Erosion by rivers, glaciers, and ocean waves
• Fire leaves bare slopes vulnerable to rain
• Earthquakes weaken structures
• Volcanic eruptions
• Weight of snow on slopes

Where do mudflows occur?

• On weak slopes
• Mountains

If this happens

• You need to evacuate. Your house might get
  damaged.
• You also need to warn your neighbors.

Prevention and protection

• On the La Conchita and Templane Highway, stay
  alert, buckle up, and reduce speeds.
• Plant shrubbery and vegetation.
• To prevent it from burying your house, build a
  retaining wall in back and sandbag out front.
