Approval of 2008 Annual Meeting Minutes
  • I. Welcome and Agenda Review, Cheryl Smith,
    Chair.
  • II. Minutes Approval Members moved to approve
the minutes from the 2007 annual members meeting
    and the motion passed unanimously.
  • III. 2008 Progress and Looking Ahead to 2009,
    Lisa Woll, CEO
  • - Lisa referred members to the written progress
report provided to the full membership in advance
of SRI in the Rockies and the annual meeting. The
    report documented major accomplishments across
our programs, including the progress of SIFs
working groups. The document is available in the
Members Only section of the SIF website at
www.socialinvest.org. Lisa then opened the floor
to the membership. Discussion addressed the
    following issues
  • - Status of the SIF mission statement SIF had
embarked on a process to develop a new mission
statement and ultimately decided to keep the
original mission statement (making a one word
change). Expected this statement will be
    evaluated during upcoming strategic planning.
  • - Can we do more in terms of microfinance? SIF
has a community investing working group that will
continue to promote national and global community
    investing options, including microfinance.
  • - What are the top three SIF Goals? Smoothly
    transitioning to becoming an independent
    organization working with the new
    Administration addressing the financial crisis.
Note that further engagement in policy work will
require greater participation by members, and SIF
members have not historically been actively
engaged on the public policy front.
  • - How can we address SRI career development? SIF
and our working groups have already taken steps
in this direction. The last SIRAN meeting, for
example, included training on negotiating with
companies, and we plan to have a member training
on media or legislative outreach in 2009.

  • Strategic Planning is an organization's process
of defining its strategy or direction,
  • and making decisions on allocating its resources
    to pursue this strategy,
  • including its capital and people.
  • There are various methods organizations use to
    undertake strategic planning.
  • SIF's process has looked like this
  • Situation - assess what is today's situation -
    DONE
  • Target - define goals and/or objectives (or ideal
    state) OVERALL GOALS ARE DONE
  • Path - formulate possible routes to achieving the
    goals/objectives, required resources THIS
PROCESS IS UNDERWAY AND WILL BE DONE BY MARCH
    2010
  • Strategic Plan will then need to be
  • Implemented - Implementation of the agreed upon
steps (not yet done, and will occur through each

  • Part I SIF Mission and Strategic Goals
  • The current mission statement says that SIF is
dedicated to "advancing the practice and growth
of socially responsible investing (SRI)." In the
past year, how would you rate SIF's
    accomplishment of that objective?

20
  • SIF Mission Statement
  • CURRENT The Social Investment Forum is the US
    national nonprofit membership association for
    professionals, firms and organizations dedicated
to advancing the practice and growth of socially
    responsible investing (SRI). Critical to
    responsible investment practice is the
    consideration of environmental, social and
corporate governance criteria in addition to
    standard financial analysis. Forum members
support SRI through portfolio selection analysis,
    shareholder advocacy and community investing.
  • PROPOSED The Social Investment Forum (SIF) is
the US membership association for professionals,
firms and organizations engaged in socially
responsible and sustainable investing. The Social
    Investment Forum advances investment practices
that assess environmental, social and corporate
    governance issues to generate long-term
    competitive financial returns and positive
    societal impact.

    research, media and
  • public policy advocacy
  • 3. Substantially increase the numbers of
individuals and institutions engaged in SRI
