BRINGING IN SHABBAT
7
Shabbat happens every Friday evening. It is a
time to rest and be together as a family. It
reminds Jews of the creation story which says
that G-d made the world in six days and rested on
the seventh.
Before it gets dark two candles are lit.
8
Then a special prayer is said for the children
9
Next some wine is poured into a Kiddush cup and a
prayer is said. The wine is passed around for
everyone to have a sip.
10
Everyone then washes their hands.
11
Two loaves of challah bread are uncovered.
12
It is cut up and sprinkled with salt. Everyone
enjoys a piece.
13
Finally, everyone sits down to enjoy a meal
together. The meal lasts the whole evening. It
is a time to share news from the week and to sing
songs.

Bringing in Shabbat
  • Did you notice how the word God was shown?
  • G-d.
  • Many Jews think the name of God is so important
and special that you shouldnt say it (or spell
    it).
  • This is why the o is not put into the word.
  • Think of someone that is very special to you and
talk about them with a partner

17
Then a special prayer is said for the children
18
Bringing in Shabbat
  • Think about how having a special prayer said for
you at Shabbat might make the children feel?
  • As a class we will now make a list of some of
    those feelings words.
  • Now we will choose one of the feelings words
and write a class poem about it.
