6BRINGING IN SHABBAT
7Shabbat happens every Friday evening. It is a
time to rest and be together as a family. It
reminds Jews of the creation story which says
that G-d made the world in six days and rested on
the seventh.
Before it gets dark two candles are lit.
8Then a special prayer is said for the children
9Next some wine is poured into a Kiddush cup and a
prayer is said. The wine is passed around for
everyone to have a sip.
10Everyone then washes their hands.
11Two loaves of challah bread are uncovered.
12It is cut up and sprinkled with salt. Everyone
enjoys a piece.
13Finally, everyone sits down to enjoy a meal
together. The meal lasts the whole evening. It
is a time to share news from the week and to sing
songs.
