6Why Does it Matter?
Global advertisement overall is expected to grow
by 5.6 each year in the time period between 2005
and 2008. In that same time period, internet
advertisement is expected to grow by 19.9
annually. Media Post Publications, April 2006 On
August 31, 2007, eMarketer, a firm that tracks
spending trends across various mediums, predicted
that internet advertising will surpass radio
advertisement to become the worlds fourth
largest ad medium. At the pace that it is
growing, it will top television to become the 1
largest advertisement medium in 2011. Internet
Displaces Radio As Fourth Biggest Ad Medium.
Media Post. 31 August 2007. 2011 thats when
well be graduating (if we make 4 years)
7How Does it Work?
Text/words Quick, catchy Some ads just text
Flashing colors Bright colors Animations, movies,
movement
W O V E
Sounds play Computer makes noises
Internet, Computers All communication comes out
of a computer screen and speakers
Internet advertisers can put their ads on
websites that they would predict people in their
target market would most likely visit. Example,
ads to go see SAW IV on neopets.com? Not
likely. Right now on nick.com (Nickelodeon) the
banner ad was actually for neopets.com
8Any hope for an end??
No.
If you do not like online ads, do not support
websites with many ads. If advertisers see no
results they will not keep paying for ads. You
can download/enable pop-up blockers that do a
relatively good job of stopping any extra windows
from opening up, but it does nothing to stop all
other types of ads. I wouldnt bet on any type of
anti-advertisement revolution though
