important to us! We will do whatever it takes to
ensure that our students receive courteous
service, attractive, and well-balanced meals
every day. Enclosed is information detailing our
many services. - The Putnam County Schools Food Services would
like to take this opportunity to acquaint you
with our program. Our goal is to provide high
quality meals for your child that are both
nutritious and appealing at a reasonable cost. - Our team of food service professionals is

3THE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PROGRAM
- It is the goal of School Food Services to
provide a healthy and nutritious breakfast and
lunch daily, while at the same time allowing
students to choose from the foods they enjoy
eating. - The Breakfast Program
- Breakfast is offered daily in all schools before
the start of the school day. Students may choose
from a wide variety of items including fresh
fruit or juice, and milk to make a complete
nutritious breakfast. Students have an option of
selecting a minimum of three or a maximum of four
items to stay within a minimum A healthy school
breakfast is a great way to begin a day of
learning. - The Lunch Program
- Students may select a lunch from a wide variety
of daily offerings. The meal consists of a
protein item, 2 from the fruit/vegetable group,
bread, and milk. Students have an option of
selecting a minimum of three or a maximum of five
items to stay within the standard meal price. By
offering a variety of nutritious choices for
different menu items, students can select a
healthy meal made up of foods that they will eat.
When you choose a school lunch, you choose
variety, nutrition and great taste.
4 EXTRA ITEMS
- Most cafeterias offer a variety of extra items.
These food items are offered in addition to, not
in place of, the regular menu at an additional
cost. The price list of extra items is available
at each school or online so that you may plan
with your child the types of items he/she may
select and the amount of extra money that will be
needed. Keep in mind that fresh fruits are
available at breakfast and fresh fruits and
veggies at lunch for just 25cents. Also, your
child may ask for Fresh To Go for a 25 cent
healthy classroom snack. -
5SPECIAL DIETS
- All requests for special diets must be submitted
to the Cafeteria Manager or Central Office on a
diet prescription form with a physicians
signature. All prescriptions must be for the
current school year and must be completed in

7Charge Policy
- Charging of meals is discouraged because the
Federal Government only recognizes free, reduced
and paid meals. No child will be denied a meal
because they do not fit in the recognized
categories. Maximum charges K-6 (5 days)
7-12 (2 days) - A la carte charges are prohibited.
- A minimum standard meal will be provided to
students with charge balances that exceed the
policy guidelines. There will be absolutely no
charging after May 1st. - Parent, teacher and visitor charges are
prohibited.
8Payment Options
- School Food Services offers meals free or at
reduced prices to families who qualify for this
benefit. An application for meal benefits is
available at any school, at Central Office or in
printable form online. The completed application
must be returned to your childs school within
the first 10 days of school. - Students who were approved for benefits during
the last school year will continue receiving
meals under last years approval for 15 days
while new applications are being processed. - New students must have application approved
before meal benefits can begin.
9Student Accounts
Parents are encouraged to pay for students meals
in advance. Advance payment allows the cafeteria
to provide the most efficient service to all
customers. Make sure all checks, money orders and
cashiers checks are made payable to your school
cafeteria and are properly signed. There will be
a 20 fee on all returned checks. And after (2)
returned checks, meals will be cash only! You may
send cash, checks, money orders, or cashiers
checks. Include the following information with
your payment Students full name
Grade Teachers Name If paying for more
than one student, please list all student names
and POS ID s on an envelope. School Food
Services will accept cash, money orders and
cashiers checks or parents can make deposits
