Aim of the Workshop
  • To identify why each group of young people
  • are not taking part in sport and physical
  • activity within PE and extra curricular
  • activities.

  • Disengage Young People to release from an

  • affection for someone or something alienated
  • Disabled Young People any restriction or lack
    (resulting

  • 10 mins with 5 min feedback

  • Buddies Project Based on young
    leaders/volunteers can be adapted into most
    areas as a support mechanism
  • Supporting young disabled people access
    leadership and volunteering
  • Identification of Buddies and Young leaders not
    for every disabled young person

  • Logging of hours and rewards

Inclusive Strategies for PE and Sportresource
Nottinghamshire County Council
  • Aim to increase access for disabled pupils and
    those on the graduated Response Register to High
    Quality Physical Education and School Sport
    inside and outside of the curriculum
  • How will the aim be achieved Supporting schools
    with the inclusion of disabled pupils in high
    quality PE and school sport through the Inside
    Out Project and providing training for all
    individuals that are involved in the provision of
    PE and school sport to ensure high quality
    inclusive delivery
  • Funded through Communities and Children and Young
    Peoples Departments
  • Steering group statutory, education, health,
    school sport partnerships, YST and EFDS.

5 Key themes to the project
  • Support, advice and guidance
  • Enabling success and progression for pupils who
    are gifted/talented and/or interested
  • Raise awareness and provide information on
    Inclusive PE and School Sport
  • Enhance facility access and in doing so increase
    provision
  • Provide training and learning opportunities for
    people working with disabled pupils inside and
    outside the curriculum in PE and school sport.

Derbyshire Special School Sports Association
(DSSSA)
  • Little or no festival/competition for special
    schools or SEN children in mainstream schools.
  • Sent out proposal to PDMs, SSCOs and PLTs they
    agreed to meet
  • DSSSA was formed over a year ago
  • Funding secured to support festival delivery
  • Calendar produced
  • First year of delivery underway.

  • Ability VS Ability
  • it can be used by anyone as it's a cross
    curricular resource. Use it in any subject area
  • teachers of English, PE, GCSE PE, PSHE, and
    Citizenship will find specific links to the
    curriculum content
  • there are links to the Every Child Matters (ECM)
    and Children First agendas
  • the only limit to the use of Ability vs Ability
    is the imagination of teachers and pupils.

  • Primary and secondary school teachers, learning
    support assistants, coaches, SENCOs, adults other
    than teachers and any others involved in
    delivering PE and school sport, out of school
    hours learning (OSHL) and sport in the community.
  • Course content
  • This practical course will ensure that pupils
    with special education needs, learning
    difficulties, physical or sensory impairments can
    take part in a positive PE and games experience. 
    Delivered in a sports hall delegates receive an
    active hands-on learning experience.  Packed with
    new skills and teaching methods you are
    guaranteed to go away buzzing with ideas.
