- EVALUATION OF SEROLOGICAL TESTS IN DIAGNOSIS OF
TOXOPLASMOSIS AMONG COMPLICATED PREGNANCY
3 This work was conducted on 100 pregnant
women with previous complicated obstetric history
suggesting Toxoplasma infection as abortion,
stillbirth, neonatal death or babies with
congenital anomaly.
- Blood samples were collected from all cases and
sera were separated and preserved at 20 ºC. - Anti-Toxoplasma IgG and IgM antibodies were
evaluated using four commercial serological
tests
4- Latex agglutination test
- The test was done using the reagent (SAS
TOXO RAPID LATEX, SAS scientific Inc.,Texas,
USA). - It was used for detection of Toxoplasma IgG
antibodies. - Indirect haemagglutination test (IHAT)
- The test was done using TOXO HAIFUMOUZE
(Laboratories FUMOUZE division diagnostics,
Levallois Pepret, France). - It was used for detection of Toxoplasma IgG
antibodies.
5- Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
- ELISA is taken as the standard serological test
that is going to be evaluated with the other
serological tests. It was done using the
commercial kit TOXOPLASMA GONDII IgG IgM ELISA,
NOVUM DIAGNOSTICA GMBH, Germany. - It was used for determination of IgG and IgM
antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii in human serum. - Immuno-Comb test
- The test was done using Immuno-comb TOXO IgG
IgM, obtained from PBS (Organics, Courbevoie
cedex, France). - It was used for the determination of IgG and
IgM antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii in human
serum.

14Conclusion
- All the tests used in this study revealed a
significant correlation, and that combination of
more than one test can be recommended as a
satisfactory and economic procedure for
establishing the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis. - The high prevalence of toxoplasmosis among
tested women indicated that Toxoplasma infection
is an important cause of complicated pregnancies.
This constitutes an important health problem for
pregnant women and neonates
