1ED Tracking (Census) Board
- Census board will be the initial screen seen at
log in for the ED staff - The purpose of the Board is to serve as a
communication tool for ED staff - Other areas of Clinicals can be easily accessed
from the Tracking Board
2Nurses Responsibility
- If necessary update complaint to be more specific
- Assign triage level
- Assign self under RN
- Enter comments, using this field as a
communication tool
3Physicians/ PA Responsibility
- Assign self under MD, PAs use other
- Sign off results after viewing
- Enter planned disposition of patient
4The ED Tracking Board will be the initial screen
seen at log on for ED staff
5Select to filter and display all patients, by
unit, by patients assigned, or for open beds.
6The tracking board will automatically refresh
every minute or can be manually refreshed by
using the refresh button
7This button with a single column lists all
patients in a one column view.
8The button with two columns list patients in
a two column view This displays a greater number
of patients, but fewer columns of information can
be included.
9The button with the plus or minus signs
enable the user to customize their own screen by
hiding columns they wish not to view.
10On this screen I removed alerts and ATN by
clicking on the check mark. Once I select OK my
screen will reflect the hidden columns
11Alerts and ATN are now hidden. To place back
I would select icon and place a check mark in
the appropriate column and select OK
12This icon provides additional patient
information listed below and allows you to easily
access other sections of Soarian. From this
screen you can access face sheet, patient record,
clinical summary, orders, results or the visit
cube
13This icon removes patients from the board
and will not be used
14This icon provides statistical information
regarding the number of ED patients, number in
waiting room, average wait time, and LOS.
15To change the order of listings, click on the
column header to list in ascending or descending
order. For example, click on Locations to sort by
Room Number, Patient to list names in
alphabetical order, MD to sort by physician, RN
to sort by nurse, or LOS to sort by length of
stay.
16- Lets review the columns
- Location updated from Soarian Financials
- Complaint comes from registration, nursing can
change this to be more specific - TL (Triage level)- Nursing selects triage level
as soon as possible after triage - Patient - last name first
- Alerts will not be used at this time in ED
- A/G is the patients age and gender, if you hover
cursor you can view birthdate
17- Lets review the columns
- PCP (primary care provider) is entered from
registration. The first 3 letters display. By
hovering cursor you can read the entire name. - ATN (Attending) is entered from registration
- MD is used for all Emergency Department
Physicians.
18 The physician will keep this column updated.
Clicking on MD name or dotted line will open an
add /edit, history tab allowing you to add a
physician or view the assignment history. If the
user logged on is already identified as an ED
physician, his/her name will be a choice on this
dropdown.
19The physician can select their name and click OK.
If a physician does not show up on the quick
pick list, they can be added by selecting the add
button
20From this screen you can search for a physician
by last name, place a check mark in the box,
click on the arrow and select OK
21The nurse is responsible for keeping this
assignment updated. By clicking on the nurse
and/or dotted line will open an add /edit,
history tab allowing you to add a nurse or view
the assignment history. If the user logged on is
already identified as an ED nurse, his/her name
will be a choice on this dropdown.
22From this Quick Pick List you can select a
provider by highlighting a name and OK to update
the screen.
23The Other column is used for the PA. The PA is
responsible for adding his/her own name.
24- The length of stay column is generated from the
registration information. - LOS turns yellow at 3 hours, indicating time is
approaching excessive length of stay - Red at 4 hours indicating excessive length of
stay
25The orders/results columns The lab column The
radiology column The cardiology
column The respiratory column
26Orders and Results A small circle means
there are orders of that type A green box
means one or more non critical results are
received A red box means that results are
received and one or more are at the critical
level A check mark in a red or green box
indicates that a physician has signed off on all
results of that type. If a new order is placed,
the check mark will disappear until additional
results are received and signed.
27Disposition is entered by the physician. Examples
include admit, discharge, transfer, expired.
28The nurse is to enter comments. This is a useful
communication tool about the status of the
patient. Clicking on the dotted line opens a
list of comments to select from. Other allows
you the option to free text a comment. You can
add to or edit a comment you select from the
dropdown.
29Results will be signed off when reviewed by the
physician. This example shows that the lower 2
results have already been signed off (no
checkboxes). The checkbox in front of Laminectomy
View shows it is selected and the physician signs
it by clicking on the pencil icon. When all are
signed off, a checkmark will appear in the green
box under radiology column.
30Returning to the Tracking Board
To return to the Tracking Board from another
location, select the ED Tracking Board link
