New NANO projects in the Ecsite
network Outreach in Nanotechnology (first)
WORKSHOP 6 February 2007, European
Commission GOAL First, this exercise aims at
identifying appropriate messages, vehicles and
techniques to attain tough-to-reach audiences
(about 42 Europeans), especially youngsters.
Assessment of current communication experiences
and insight of desirable outcomes will be
outlined. This will allow to identifying the most
appropriate participatory mechanisms promoting
dialogue with the broad civil society.

Nanotechnology (second) WORKSHOP Appropriate
communication, dialogue, engagement   From
recommendations to action   24-25 October 2007,
European Commission A number of actions on the
communication and outreach of nanotechnology are
being carried out in the EC, starting from the
design and implementation of a "Communication
Plan for NN". In order to ensure that the
actions planned cover the real necessities of
professionals and society, the Commission has
organised a series of consultations to collect
recommendations from experts in the field of
science communication on the best way to proceed
with the communication of nanosciences and
nanotechnologies. These recommendations will
help shape the calls for proposals that are
periodically issued to fund appropriate actions
in communication and dialogue.

pport to outreach and communication in
nanotechnology   Technical content/scope
Providing European citizens and stakeholders
with science-based, balanced and up-todate
information on nanotechnology is part of the
European Commission's approach as well as
appropriate initiatives in communication and
outreach. The proposed support action(s) should
aim at ... Funding scheme Coordination and
support actions aiming at supporting research
activities. Specific features Several CSAs with
different foci could be funded under this call.
Duration, number of partners and budget can
differ substantially depending on the content and
objectives Expected impact (i) contribute
effectively in raising the awareness of Europe's
citizens on Nanotechnology (ii) support the
activity of various stakeholders researchers,
industrialists, investors, museums and/or
schools (iii) enhance support to good governance
in nanotechnology (iv) contribute to the
implementation of the European Commissions
Action Plan for Nanotechnology.
