• Communication may occur simultaneously at many
  levels, in addition to the content of what is
  said
• Every communication has a content and
  relationship aspect.

  solutions fail, so the solution is used again
  more intensely
• More of the same usually results in first-order
  change
• Second order change appears weird, unexpected,
  and uncommonsensical.

The theory

• Family should be looking for the key, rather than
  trying to find out why the lock is in the way or
  why the door wont open.
• Emphasis on finding solutions rather than
  focusing on problem construction and definition.
• Clients know what is best for them in their
  particular situation therapists job is to help
  them get in touch with these solutions.
• Client has capacity to stop problemnon-pathologic
  al perspective.
• The entire problem doesnt need to be modified,
  only some small portion of it.
• Language is extremely important with this theory.
