Title: The Wholeness Journey Overcoming Rejection
1The Wholeness JourneyOvercoming Rejection
- Adapted from
- Overcoming Rejection by Chris Hayward
- How to Minister Freedom by Doris Wagner
- Healing through Deliverance by Peter Horrobin
- Sexual Healing by David Foster
2Rejection Hurts
- Rejection is an act of throwing away or
discarding someone or something.
- This innately implies a lack of value
- We begin to feel that we have no value as we
experience an overwhelming sense of worthlessness - Perhaps most significantly, rejection is the act
of being denied love - We feel unwanted and unwelcome!
3Rejection
- Hurt people, hurt people, and are easily hurt by
other people
- That is, the more rejection built up in your life
the easier it is to be hurt by others - Like a wounded pet that bites the owner that is
trying to render aid - we hurt others - Hurt people misinterpret the motives of those
around them - They can easily default to the worst motive in
every situation
4The Problem with Rejection
- When thoughts of rejection consume us we have
difficulty receiving the love of God
- We might receive His love intellectually but find
it awkward to emotionally experience it - This also becomes true when others try to express
their love to us - We resist their affections in proportion to the
degree of rejection built up in our lives - We can become paranoid - inventing a hurtful
motive in every encounter
5Two Kingdoms
- Gods Kingdom is one of love, unconditional
acceptance, and forgiveness
- He offers us mercy and grace without limit
- Satans Kingdom is one where there is no love,
joy, peace, acceptance, or forgiveness - There is only condemnation, rejection,
disillusionment, destruction, division, and
despair - Satans goal is to steal our love of God
6Satans Vision Statement
- The thief's (Satans) purpose is to steal and
kill and destroy. NLT John 1010a
- Steal - to stealthily, imperceptibly, remove our
love, joy, and peace in Christ - Kill - to remove the true purpose for our lives
by seducing us into chasing worthless endeavors - Destroy - to ruin our lifes work so that looking
back we see a worthless heap of rubble
7Gods Vision Statement
- My Gods purpose is to give life in all its
fullness. NLT John 1010b
- The Greek word here is zoe not bios
- Bios is the biological life we live on Earth
where zoe is the life of God in Heaven! - Jesus came to fully give us the God kind of life
of Heaven - while we are still on Earth! - Remember, if God takes away it is only to add
more (i.e., He prunes us)
8Satans Dilemma
- Satan knows it is hard to get us Christians to
deny our Lord or to give up our faith directly
- Consequently, he takes a round about method of
tricking us into rejecting the love of God - The goal is to make us impotent and ineffective
like salt with no flavor - NLT Luke 1434 "Salt is good for seasoning. But
if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty
again? 35 Flavorless salt is good neither for the
soil nor for fertilizer. It is thrown away.
Anyone who is willing to hear should listen and
understand!"
9Why Rejection?
- Satan wants us to reject the love of God
- Without love, faith will not work
- KJV Galatians 56b faith which worketh by love.
- Those full of rejection are so worried about what
others think of them (self-centered) that they
cannot function in faith - Again, Satan uses hurts to remove the love of
God, and the love of others, from our lives and
substitutes rejection
10Rejection to what end?
- Without great love we will not have great faith
- Like a python suffocating its prey, over time and
enough incidents of rejection, Satan slowly
steals the love of God and love of others from
our hearts - With little love we have little faith
- NLT 1 Corinthians 132c And if I had the gift of
faith so that I could speak to a mountain and
make it move, without love I would be no good to
anybody.
11The Goal of Rejection
- We end up a people full of rejection
- We no longer experience the joy of serving Him
and the peace of His presence - Splits and divisions increase
- The church becomes anemic and ineffective
- We become a faith-less people
- We are useless unseasoned salt!
- Without love fear abounds
- NKJ 1 John 418 There is no fear in love but
perfect love casts out fear, because fear
involves torment. But he who fears has not been
made perfect in love.
12The Stronghold of Rejection
- Satan works to build a castle or stronghold
called Rejection in our mind and hearts which
includes four surrounding walls
- These are not physical walls but rather emotional
walls - In order to access and evict Rejection we must
tear down the surrounding walls - Realize, Satan works through deception
- He counts on us to buy into his deception, reject
Gods truth, and embrace a lie
13Razing the Stronghold
- We must repent of those instances where we have
given in to Rejection and failed to trust God
- We must renounce every place of agreement with
Satans lies - We must destroy the yoke of bondage to which we
have been submitted - KJV Isaiah 1027 And it shall come to pass in
that day, that his burden shall be taken away
from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy
neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of
the anointing.
14Jesus is the Bondage Breaker
- NKJ Luke 418 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel
to the poor He has sent Me to heal the
brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the
captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To
set at liberty those who are oppressed 19 To
proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD."
- The ministry of Jesus continues on Earth today by
the Holy Spirit of God - the one that broke
bondage through Jesus - NKJ Matthew 1228 "But if I cast out demons by
the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has
come upon you. - He is ready to free us today!
15The First Wall
- The outer wall is the Rejection of God
- Without this wall no other walls can be built
- If it goes up the others will surely follow
- How as Christians do we reject God?
- We reject His Word (Truth), His ways, His
character and His love - We become impatient with God
- Questioning His loving providence we take matters
into our own hands, thus rejecting Him - Even as Adam and Eve did in the Garden
16Razing the Rejection of God
- Father I repent of rejecting You and Your Word.
Forgive me, Lord, for not believing that You Love
and accept me. I repent of taking things into my
own hands. I repent of my pride, stubbornness,
self-will, and rebellion. I first bind the
strongman of rejection from interfering with the
removal of the outer walls of his stronghold in
Jesuss name. I renounce and cast away all
rejection of God and the spirit behind it. I
refuse to accept its influence in my life any
longer. I break every word, and all agreements I
have made with the spirit of rejection of God. I
break all connections and generational influences
that have to do with the spirit of rejection of
God. And now, because of what Jesus has done on
the cross, and the authority He has given me, I
come against the wall of rejection of God and
break it down in Jesus Name!
17The Second Wall
- The second wall is the Fear of Rejection
- Cut off from the love of God fear enters to fill
the void - We begin to distrust God and others
- We sabotage relationships to prevent others from
getting too close - Effectively, we reject others before they can
reject us - We use this irrational strategy with the goal of
never being hurt again
18Razing the Fear of Rejection
- Father, I repent of all deception and lying,
suspicion, mistrust, control and manipulation. I
repent of trying to please people instead of
seeking to please You. I renounce the spirit
behind the fear of rejection. I reject its lies.
I break all words or agreements with the fear of
rejection. I break all connections and
generational influences with the fear of
rejection. Fear of rejection, in the Authority of
the Name of Jesus, by the Blood of God who became
flesh, by the Cross that bore this my curse away,
and by the Spirit of Holiness Who raised Jesus
Christ from the Dead, I come against you and
break down your wall!
19The Third Wall
- The third wall is self rejection
- Some were born in to families that did not want
them or their particular gender - Others do not have the physical build, good
looks, intelligence, or sporting ability of
others leading to rejection by them - Since our parents or others do not want us we
slip into the trap of believing that we should
not be here at all (i.e., self rejection) - Not to accept the person we are and to dislike,
or even hate, the personality He gave us is to
imply that God made a mistake when making us
which is a sin
20Razing Self Rejection
- Father, I repent of rejecting myself. I repent of
hating Your creation. I repent of resisting Your
plan for my life. I repent of trying to be
someone I was never meant to be. I repent of
always needing the approval of others. I choose
to accept Your love for me and what I am meant to
be. Spirit of self-rejection, I renounce you. I
break your power. I break your authority. I break
every curse and vow that has given you permission
to operate in my life. I choose to accept Gods
Word, God love, and Gods ways for my life. I
break the wall of self-rejection off my life now
in the Authority of the Name of Jesus, by the
Blood of God who became flesh, by the Cross that
bore this my curse away, and by the Spirit of
Holiness Who raised Jesus Christ from the Dead!
21The Fourth Wall
- The fourth wall is the rejection of others
- When we do not accept personal responsibility for
our own actions, we look for opportunities to
blame others - We begin to look for someone else or something to
blame for unmet expectations - This rejection is rooted in unforgiveness
- We seek to punish those that have hurt us by
rejecting them - However, we only end up hurting ourselves
22Razing the Rejection of Others
- Father, I repent of rejecting others. I repent
for having been unforgiving, resentful, and
bitter towards others. I repent for allowing the
hurt that I received to move me to reject others
before they could reject me. Spirit of rejection
of others, I renounce you. I refuse to accept
your influence in my life any longer. I choose to
be a person of acceptance, not rejection. I break
all words, agreements, and connections with you.
I break all generational influences that would
give strength to the rejection of others. I break
the wall of rejection of others off my life now
in the Authority of the Name of Jesus, by the
Blood of God who became flesh, by the Cross that
bore this my curse away, and by the Spirit of
Holiness Who raised Jesus Christ from the Dead!
23The Strongman of Rejection
- Hidden and protected by the four walls of the
stronghold is the strongman of rejection
- This is the spirit that causes us to turn in on
ourselves and lose heart and hope - When we embrace the spirit of rejection, we have
difficulty being able to fully receive the love
of God - Worship becomes an effort and intimacy with God
next to impossible - Feeling worthless makes any attempt at affection
seem unreal
24Evicting Rejection
- Now, spirit of rejection, your stronghold has
been dismantled you have no protection. I come
against you and I reject you. Your defeat was
accomplished at the cross of Jesus. I tell you
that your rule in my life ends here, now. Because
of the Spirit of God, who gives me power and
authority, I command you to loose me from your
hold. I command you to leave me now in Jesus
name!
25Preventing Reconstruction
- If you accept others as they are they become more
acceptable and if you reject them they become
more objectionable
- We must learn to accept others that hurt us
unconditionally, but reject the sin involved in
their behavior - We do not have to condone behavior that is
totally unacceptable, but we must act in a loving
way toward them in spite of their behavior - We must understand that we are unique to God,
that no one else can be us - God treasures us and we can not be replaced!
26Preventing Reconstruction (cont.)
- God had you in mind before your parents even met!
- NAU Jeremiah 15a "Before I formed you in the
womb I knew you, - NAU Job 3115 "Did not He who made me in the womb
make him, And the same one fashion us in the
womb? - NAU Genesis 126 Then God said, "Let Us make man
in Our image, according to Our likeness and let
them rule over the fish of the sea and over the
birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all
the earth, and over every creeping thing that
creeps on the earth." 27 God created man in His
own image, in the image of God He created him
male and female He created them.
27Preventing Reconstruction (cont.)
- God planned on you before you were born!
- NAU Jeremiah 15b And before you were born I
consecrated you I have appointed you a prophet
to the nations." (Jeremiah the Prophet) - NAU Galatians 115 But when God, who had set me
apart even from my mother's womb and called me
through His grace, was pleased 16a to reveal His
Son in me so that I might preach Him among the
Gentiles (Paul the Apostle) - NAU Psalm 13913 For You formed my inward parts
You wove me in my mother's womb. 14 I will give
thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully
made Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows
it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from
You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully
wrought in the depths of the earth 16 Your eyes
have seen my unformed substance And in Your book
were all written The days that were ordained for
me, When as yet there was not one of them.
28Preventing Reconstruction (cont.)
- God has beautiful plans for your future from now
on!
- NAU Jeremiah 2911 'For I know the plans that I
have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for
welfare and not for calamity to give you a future
and a hope. - NAU Ephesians 14 just as He chose us in Him
before the foundation of the world, that we would
be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He
predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus
Christ to Himself, according to the kind
intention of His will, - NAU Ephesians 24 But God, being rich in mercy,
because of His great love with which He loved us,
5 even when we were dead in our transgressions,
made us alive together with Christ (by grace you
have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him,
and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in
Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He
might show the surpassing riches of His grace in
kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
29I am special. God created me for Himself, and I
thank Him for the spirit, soul, and body that He
gave me. I accept them as a gift from God and
repent over all wrong attitudes I have towards
them. I unconditionally forgive every person who
has thought, said or done things to or about me
that have made me want to reject myself. I
dedicate my life afresh to the One who made me,
and I rejoice in His goodness
