  • Third son of seven

    Eisenhower
  • Most of his childhood he spent in Abilene, Kansas
  • Had a Nickname called Ike
  • Liked sports more then books
  • Enrolled in the United States Military Academy at
    West Point in 1911
  • Graduated in 1915
  • Assigned to served at Fort Sam Houston, Texas
  • Married Mamie Geneva Doud in 1916, had two sons

Early Military Career
  • During World War 1 he commanded a training center
    for tank crews
  • Promoted to captain and received the
    Distinguished service Medal
  • In 1933 became an aide to Army chief of staff
    General Douglas MacArthur
  • 1940 he returned to the U.S. as a lieutenant
    colonel. He became a full colonel in 1941.

  • In 1942 Eisenhower became commander of the U.S.
    forces in Europe
  • Led the Invasion of North Africa
  • Became a 4 star General in 1943
  • That year he launched successful attacks on
    Tunisia, Sicily, and Italy
  • In December 1943 he was made supreme commander of
    the allied forces that were to invade Europe
  • In 1944 he was awarded the highest U.S. military
    rank, Five Star General
  • In 1948 he retired from the Military
