  • PIAC December 3, 2007

2
Purpose
  • The goal was to encourage those who would be
considered first responders to an AI event to
    participate fully in the exercise.
  • Both public health personnel and non-public
health partner agencies were invited to these
    regional training sessions.

3
Sessions
  • The first two sessions were held in the areas of
Virginia with the highest concentrations of
commercial poultry- the Eastern Shore of Virginia
    and the Shenandoah Valley.
  • A final session was held in Richmond
  • All of the training sessions included both
    lectures and facilitated discussions.

4
Funding
  • We received a 20,000 grant from the Council of
    State and Territorial Epidemiologists

5
Participants
  • Approximately 70 people participated in the
    Shenandoah Valley session
  • Approximately 40 people participated in the
    Eastern Shore session
  • Approximately 60 people participated in the
    Central Virginia session

6
Lessons Learned
  • Each situation of high path AI will be unique,
yet the primary roles involved in each incident
    should stay the same.
  • Therefore, it is important for the stakeholders
to know what roles will be involved, who may be
filling those roles, when these personnel will be
involved and what their limitations and
    capabilities are.
