Title: Creating Web Pages With Excel
1Creating Web Pages With Excel
2Create interactive or non-interactive Web pages
- You can convert an Excel workbook into Web pages
that can be placed on the Web and viewed by
others. - A non-interactive Web page allows users to scroll
through the content but not to make any changes
to the values on the page. - An interactive Web page provides tools for users
to modify and format the values displayed in the
page.
3Create a non-interactive Web page based on an
Excel workbook
- To convert an Excel workbook into a
non-interactive Web page - Click the File menu, and then click Save As
- In the Save As dialog box you can set your
publishing options, including whether or not to
make the page interactive. - Make certain the Add interactivity check box is
not selected - Publish the entire workbook, or only the
currently selected sheet - Specify a title to appear on the Web page by
clicking the Change Title button - Specify a new name for Web page, or retain the
current file name
4The Save As dialog box
You can specify several Web page publishing
options in this dialog box. Many of the options
shown here can also be set in the Publish as Web
Page dialog box.
5Set publishing options for a non-interactive Web
page
- When you have all your options set in the Save As
dialog box, click the Publish button to open the
Publish as Web page dialog box. - In the Publish as Web Page dialog box you can
- Choose which items to publish
- Set viewing options
- Choose your page title and file name
- Set the AutoRepublish option
6The Publish as Web Page dialog box
This dialog box allows you to specify many
options for the Excel workbook or worksheet being
published as a Web page.
7Use the AutoPublish feature
- If you make frequent changes to workbook data,
and want the Web page to reflect the latest data,
click the AutoPublish check box in the Publish as
Web Page dialog box. - The Web page will be updated to show the latest
data. - You can have Excel launch your browser
automatically after it is published by placing a
check mark in the Open published web page in
browser check box. - Click the Publish button and Excel will open a
Web page based on the contents of your workbook
or worksheet.
8A non-interactive Web page in a Web browser
window
If the Open published Web page in browser
option was selected in the Publish as Web Page
dialog box, the browser will launch and open your
page when you click the Publish button.
9Crease an interactive Web page based on an Excel
workbook
- The alternative to creating a non-interactive Web
page from an Excel workbook is to create an
interactive Web page. - An interactive Web page allows users to enter
different values into the workbook. - The procedure used to create an interactive Web
page is the same as to create a non-interactive
Web page except that you choose the Add
interactivity option in the Save As dialog box.
10Interactive Web page considerations
- Difference between an interactive Web page and a
non-interactive Web page - Excel does not publish embedded charts or chart
sheets in the interactive Web pages - Changes a user makes in an interactive Web page
do NOT affect the original workbook or worksheet
only the Web page is affected - Changes a user makes in an interactive Web page
do NOT last from one browser session to the next
11Create the interactive page
- To convert an Excel workbook into an interactive
Web page - Click the File menu, and then click Save As
- In the Save as dialog box you can set your
publishing options, including whether or not to
make the page interactive - Make certain the Add interactivity check box IS
selected - Elect to publish the entire workbook, or only the
currently selected sheet - Specify a title to appear on the Web page by
clicking the Change Title button - Specify a new name for Web page, or retain the
current file name

interactivity check box.
13An interactive page in a Web browser
This figure shows an interactive Web page viewed
in a Web browser window.
14Interactive Web page considerations
- In an interactive Web page, the contents of the
workbook are placed on the page as a Web
component called the spreadsheet component. - The initial size of the spreadsheet component is
chosen to fit the initial dimensions of the Web
browser window. - If you change the size of the Web browser window,
you might need to refresh the window to resize
the workbook object to fit the new dimensions of
the window.
