3
What is Web 2.0?
  • A place to share documents?
  • A place to share photographs?
  • A place to host your thoughts?
  • A place to keep track of websites?
  • A way to find online content?
  • Options for travel assistance?
  • A place for professional development?
  • A place for student learning?
  • All of the above?

4
What is Web 2.0?
  • The idea is that Web 1.0 was a creation of Web
pages that provided information to readers. Web
2.0 takes that information and interacts with the
reader to allow the reader to find the
information he or she wants in the format that is
    most useful to them. --Kyrnin

5
What is Web 2.0?
  • it's more than just getting content on-line.
With Web 2.0 type sites, it is possible to
combine data from various sources, even sources
that you don't own control or even exist, and
turn that into data that people can use. For
example, an idea for a Web 2.0 site might be to
combine a Flickr tagged gallery of restaurants
with actual reviews that people have written
about those restaurants and a connection to
Google Maps to find the restaurants in your area.
The Web site which put this up might not have any
of the data for the reviews, none of the photos
from Flickr, and only an interface to allow
people to pinpoint where they are or where they
are going and either read reviews of local
restaurants or even post a blogged review and
attach it to those already tagged.

Podcasting
  • The biggest, out-there hype.

Podcasting
  • Myths
  • You have to buy an iPod device.
  • You have to buy a Mac.
  • You have to use Apple Servers to host podcasts.
  • ALL ARE NOT TRUE!

13
Podcasting
  • Podcasting has become a generic term.
  • You can think of podcasting as a type of
broadcasting like the evening news or radio
channels. The people who want the information,
    get it.

14
Creation?
  • Step One Record Something.
  • Step Two Save as an MP3
  • Step Three Post it to a website.

Blogs Wikis
  • The Second Hype.

24
What is a Blog?
  • A frequent, chronological publication of personal
    thoughts and Web links.
  • A blog is often a mixture of what is happening in
a person's life and what is happening on the Web,
a kind of hybrid diary/guide site, although there
are as many unique types of blogs as there are
    people.

25
What is a Wiki?
  • A website or similar online resource which allows
users to add and edit content collectively.
  • Open Editing" has some profound and subtle
effects on Wiki usage. Allowing everyday users to
create and edit any page in a Web site is
exciting in that it encourages democratic use of
the Web and promotes content composition by
    nontechnical users.

26
What is the difference?
  • A blog is an online journal that allows the owner
to post entries that are generally displayed in
reverse chronological order. Many blogs allow
readers to comment on these posts. The creator of
the blog controls the usage by readers.
  • A wiki is a type of website that allows multiple
users to collaboratively create and edit pages.
    ANYONE can change ANYTHING.
